For Many Seniors Staying at Home is Possible

The cost of long-term care has become truly exorbitant, and this is a subject of great concern within the elder law community and there is no relief in sight. Industry analysts tell us that the cost of long-term care is going to increase into the foreseeable future.
This is some alarming news given the fact that the average annual cost for a private room in a nursing home in the United States in 2011 was in excess of $87,000. The same period of time residing in an assisted living community averaged $41,700.

One response would be to remain at home even if you do have physical limitations.

The cost of an in-home caregiver is going to be far more affordable than full-time residence in an assisted living facility. An in-home health care aide who works for a licensed agency can be had for an average of $21 per hour. If you only need limited assistance this can be an affordable option.

In addition, you could retrofit your home to accommodate your physical needs by installing things like grab bars, handrails, motion sensor faucets, and even elevators or stair chairs.

Remaining at home can be a cost-effective choice, but in addition many seniors would prefer to remain in familiar surroundings for personal reasons.

Addressing the possibility of the need for living assistance is just one of the factors to consider when you are contemplating the eventualities of aging. To craft a comprehensive plan, the intelligent first step is to sit down and discuss your future with a licensed, experienced San Bernardino elder law attorney.
