As you get older, different laws have a greater or lesser effect on your life. Elder law is simply a phrase used to describe all the legal issues that affect people as they age, retire, and die. Let's take a look at some of the more common issues that elder law attorneys deal with.
Incapacity: Losing your ability to communicate, think, or care for yourself is a significant concern for many elderly people, especially those suffering from illnesses such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia. Elder law attorneys specialize in helping the elderly prepare for any loss of capacity by, for example, creating powers of attorney or guardianships.
Assisted Living: elderly people often choose to spend their final years in an assisted living community or nursing home environment.
