Executors Should Have Attorneys

June 21, 2012     By John M. O'Drobinak, P.C.

If you have been appointed to be the Executor of a Will, you have a lot of work to do. The Executor needs to gather all of the assets of the estate and distribute them according to the terms of the Will. That's the easy part.
The Executor also needs to represent the estate in Probate Court. The Executor needs to deal with any creditors of the deceased. The Executor needs to file the final tax returns of the deceased. All of these things need to be done in a timely fashion. Being the Executor of a Will is not a simple task. You can make it easier.

Executor's can hire an attorney for the estate to help carry out these duties. The attorney has the time and expertise to make sure that everything is done when it needs to be done. The Executor does not need to pay for the attorney out of his or her own pocket. The attorney's fees come out of the estate.

If you have been named as an Executor, there is no need to handle everything by yourself. Hire an expert to help you. It is the best way to make sure that you fulfill your duties.
