Losing a loved one is hard enough without having to fight the Oregon funeral home, crematorium, or cemetery. But many people every year are appalled by the actions of these businesses, and seek help from injury lawyers for guidance. But how do you know if you have a case?
To know if you have grounds for an Oregon lawsuit, you should speak to an Oregon funeral home abuse attorney as soon as possible. But here are some common grounds:

1. Unreasonable or unexpected costs.
2. Unethical or unprofessional conduct.
3. Heinous disrespect for the remains.
4. Failing to fulfill any part of their contract with you.

The cases we hear about in the news, such as bodies being used to harvest organs, are rare - but there are other ways that funeral homes, crematoriums, and cemeteries fail to fulfill their obligations to their clients. Improper storage of the bodies, for example, can harm the remains, affect the funeral, and ultimately shows negligence on the part of the business.

There is very little training required in Oregon to become a funeral home director, so it can be important to file complaints. These complaints will let other regulatory agencies know about the problems so they can be addressed. This could also prevent someone else from having to go through this situation.

If you think your rights have been violated by the funeral home, you need to make sure everything is recorded. First, make sure you have a copy of your contract. Record details of conversations and incidents, with exact dates and times. These will help the legal investigation later, if needed.

If you win a case against a funeral home, the results will vary by what happened. If there was a breach of contract, for example, you may just receive a small settlement. For more heinous offenses, like damage to the deceased, you may receive a settlement and punitive damages (money meant to punish the business for negligence). But you would need to speak with an Oregon funeral home abuse attorney to understand all possible outcomes.
