This is possible because the SSA directly deposits the federal benefits payment directly to the said account. The monthly benefits are made available through this card so beneficiaries can use their respective Direct Express cards to make purchases, pay bills, or withdraw cash.
This program is safer and much more convenient than receiving paper checks for Social Security benefits. Because of it, there would be no more long, depressing lines at the mall and worrying about getting Social Security checks lost or stolen. Anybody who receives Social Security or Supplemental Security Income payments can enroll to this.
If you’re a qualified recipient, all you need to do is set up your account and get your own password. This password can be used for automated telephone service access to your personal account. To do this, you must visit https://secure.ssa.gov/acu/IPS_INTR/main.jsp and tweak the settings of your account. You will be guided throughout the entire registration process so you can have your accounts ready in no time.
After setting up your account, you can now start or change Direct Deposit online. Just log on to your account and start or change your Direct Deposit settings. Should you prefer to receive your benefits through your bank, credit union, or savings and loan, you can also do that by changing your account settings.
