How to stay in Thailand Long-Term with Thai Marriage Visa
Being a foreigner, you are required to obtain visa to stay in Thailand. If you are legally married to a Thai national, you can apply for the Thai marriage visa
Thai marriage visa as it is known is called a Non-Immigrant type O visa at Thai Embassy in your home country or consulate outside Thailand. The “O” stands for “Other reasons”, meaning that the reason to stay in Thailand is to support your wife or husband.
When you enter Thailand with marriage visa you can apply for an extension of stay at any Immigration office - meaning a one year visa. You have to show the original copy of your marriage certificate, your Thai spouse’s ID card. If you get your marriage certificate from abroad, you have to translate into Thai.
You also have to prove that you have no financial problems by showing of Thai bank account or income of at least 40,000 Baht per month. If the income is from abroad, you will need a letter from your embassy verifying it too. You have 90 days to extend the 90 day stay to 1 year stay by presenting a proof of relationship with a Thai national (a marriage certificate) to the Thai Immigration.
Why should you find a lawyer to help your marriage registration in Thailand?
The marriage process in Thailand is fairly straightforward. For foreigners to get married in Thailand, they must first obtain clearance from their respective embassies.
The international law firm in Thailand can help co-ordinate the procurement of official documents from the embassy and have them translated and legalized quickly with minimum problems. Familiarity with the formalities of a Thai marriage, access to qualified translators, and an understanding of the legalization process reduce the likelihood of delays or complications.
