MGRA is a global law firm focused on the legal support to companies, investors, state and regulatory bodies in critical and complex aspects of their activity, aiming at adding value and optimizing the legal efficiency of their businesses. The basis of our advisement lays on the decision and decision maker global support and intends to contribute for the development of Client's industry and the fulfillment of their tax and legal obligations.

Practice Areas

MGRA has currently 7 divisions:

- Corporate & Finance

The Corporate & Finance division is MGRA largest division and acts in five autonomous areas. On one side it is focused on the daily legal assistance to national and international companies of various industries and, on the other side, it heads the M&A projects, the legal due diligences and all the multiple corporate matters, including group reorganizations and corporate governance.

- Tax

The tax division acts transversally in MGRA’s advisement, corresponding to the needs created by the constant presence of the tax factor. Focused, on one hand, on the day-to-day tax consulting to national and international Clients of various industries, also assumes the planning of complex and innovative tax structures to accommodate the projects of MGRA Clients, always presenting pragmatic and legally integrated solutions. On the other hand, the tax litigation is one of the areas with biggest tradition in MGRA and is also concentrated in the Tax division. Strongly committed with the intransigent defense of its Clients rights, the Tax division acts before the tax authorities and courts in all national and EU jurisdictions.

- Real Estate & Intellectual Property

Real Estate & Intellectual Property division concentrates three fundamental areas where MGRA invests strongly. Firstly, in here is MGRA’s real estate area, where our team is proud of having vast experience gathered on multiple transactions and projects. Real estate investment, reorganization and protection are central issues dealt in this area. Secondly, it is also in this division that all matters related with intellectual property and new technologies are treated, being this one of MGRA’s most dynamic areas and one of its biggest bets. Such advised issues reflect the fast advances in these fields, with special incidence in the internet, which imply a constant rethinking of the legal and contractual solutions, as well as its adaptation to each Client. Finally, all the civil and commercial agreements are also congregated in this division, with the daily elaboration and negotiation of contracts of most varied nature, always in coordination with the other relevant MGRA divisions.

- Administrative & EU

The Administrative & EU division advises in various areas, corresponding to our Clients needs in their relation with the Portuguese State (including local authorities) and with the European Union.

Counting with an area entirely dedicated to Urban Planning, including urban planning, allotment, licensing, construction and soils, this area also gives support to any real estate project entrusted to MGRA.

The environment is another privileged department area, for the growing importance it assumes in some sensible sectors and industries and in our global future.

It is also in this department that concessions, public works, administrative audits, public bids and administrative litigation are centralized, always in coordination with the remaining MGRA divisions.
The EU Law area deals with all the cases that involve EU authorities or legislation, including EU incentives and subsidies, excluding any tax matters that are directly dealt by MGRA’s Tax division.

- Employment

The Employment division advises on the legal areas of labor law and social security law. Traditionally indispensable to the efficient management of the human resources of the companies, these areas had a strong development due to the successive legislative reorganizations and the opening of the Portuguese economy to a wide and competitive international market.

The Employment division acts in the day-to-day advice to MGRA Clients, advising, among others, in contracts and human resources reorganizations, employment audits, salary packages and human resources incentives. Matters like displacements, subsidies and pensions are equally treated by the Employment division.

Finally, also the labor and social security litigation is here centralized.

- Litigation & Insolvency

The Litigation & Insolvency division centralizes the majority of MGRA litigation cases and all massive pre-litigation and litigation procedures, in particular related with Corporate, Commercial and Civil Law.

- P & P (Public & Private)

The Public & Private division advises in some important areas of public and private law not covered by the remaining divisions.

The criminal questions, attending its complexity and sensitivity, are assisted by this division. On the other hand, the constitutional law and the fundamental/human rights are here centralized, either complementing the intervention of the remaining divisions, or de per si through civic initiatives and practice of citizenship rights.

On other side, the family and succession laws are central on this division, but also the consumers’ rights and the advertising laws are subjects treated by the Public & Private division.
