* Trademark Oppositions

An opposition is a proceeding in which one party is seeking to prevent registration of another party's trademark. If Turkish Patent Institute (TPI) approves that a trademark application meets the criteria of a trademark, the application will be published in the Official Trademark Bulletin, so that it will be made available to the public for review.

* Trademark Refusals

Turkish Patent Institute (TPI) reviews each trademark application, and if it concludes that the application has the characteristics needed to be a trademark i.e. if it distinguishes the goods or services of a given business from the goods or services of another business, does not look like a trademark already registered or for which a registration application is pending, does not state type, choice, nature, quality, quantity, purpose, value and geographical source, is not a sign used by everybody in commercial activities, does not contain a religious value or symbol, and is not contrary to the public order and general morality, TPI will decide to publish the application in the Official Trademark Bulletin.

* Real Estate Acquisitions

Year by year Turkey enjoys greater popularity among tourists and investors in real estate. The consequence is a strong interest of foreigners in purchasing real estate in Turkey. When purchasing property, foreigners have to observe some statutory provisions and restrictions. Trading companies are allowed to purchase real estate in Turkey within the limits of special statutes. The restrictions for foreign natural persons also apply to foreign trading companies. Associations, foundations, cooperatives and funds are not permitted to purchase real estate.

* Real Estate Ownership

Principles of ownership of immovable objects are in general identified in the Property Law section of the Civil Code. Property law includes not only ownership, but also acquiring and transfer of ownership, leasing the property and factors limiting property rights. According to the provisions of the Civil Code, every piece of real estate will be recorded in the title deed register of the place where it is located.
