- 18 Wheeler Accidents
At the Amaro Firm, we know how to effectively pursue legal action to maximize our clients' recovery in Texas 18 Wheeler Accidents. In many instances, we pursue legal action against the truck driver, the trucking company, and the tractor-trailer owner. Potential causes of action against a trucking company and its driver may include negligence per se, negligent entrustment, negligent training, negligent supervision, negligent retention of employee, and negligent maintenance. Other potential causes of action may include those common negligence theories in motor vehicle accidents such as failure to maintain a safe distance and speeding, failure to maintain a proper look out, and failure to timely apply brakes.
- Benzene Exposure
The major effects of benzene exposure are manifested through chronic long-term exposure. Benzene exposure damages the bone marrow and can cause a decrease in red blood cells. Decreased red blood cells can lead to anemia. Benzene exposure can also cause excessive bleeding and damage the immune system which increases the chance of infection. Benzene exposure causes leukemia and is associated with other blood cancers and pre-cancers of the blood. Benzene exposure targets liver, kidney, lung, heart and the brain and can cause DNA strand breaks and chromosomal damage. Benzene exposure has been shown to cause cancer in both animals and humans. Benzene studies first linked cancer in humans in the 1920s.

Brain injuries are oftentimes caused by trauma to a person’s head. This trauma may have occurred in a car wreck, a fall, in sports, from a gunshot, or from blunt force. Brain injuries may also be caused by non-traumatic events such as an electrocution, near drowning, choking, toxic exposure, chest being crushed, airway obstruction, heat attack, stroke, aneurysm, blood loss, seizure, artery impingement, and a variety of other medical causes. Many times, the trauma or non-traumatic event was caused by someone else’s negligence. - Bus Accidents
If you have been injured as the result of a bus accident in Texas, either as a passenger of the bus, pedestrian, or driver or passenger of another vehicle involved in the accident, you may be able to pursue legal action against the bus company to recover your damages. If you were a passenger on a bus that was involved in an accident, the bus company, whether public or private, owes you a duty of care associated with being a common carrier. If you or a loved one has been injured in a bus accident, you may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, property damage and car repairs, lost wages, pain and suffering, impairment, permanent injury, and disfigurement.
- Burn Accidents
The burns typically result from exposure to fire, steam, smoke, scalding liquid, electric current, or chemicals. Many times in Texas burn accidents, these injuries would have avoided if not for the negligence of other third party individuals, premises owners, and other contractors on-site. Typical acts of negligence include failure to maintain a safe work environment, OSHA violations, faulty wiring, and defective product. The most common types of burn injuries include: Electrical Burns, Thermal Burn Injuries, Chemical Burn Injuries, and, Structure Fires & Burn Injuries.

- Motorcycle Accidents
The Amaro Law Firm settled its first motorcycle case for a large six figure sum for the total insurance policy limits available in case where our client-motorcyclist rear ended another vehicle which slammed on its brakes in front of the motorcyclist. While our client was still medicated on the hospital bed, the responding police officers appeared at his bedside and wrote a ticket to our client for failure to have insurance, failure to have a Class M (motorcycle) license, and following too closely.
- Product Liability
If you believe you have been injured by a defective or dangerous product, it is important that you do the following to preserve the potential evidence: 1) Keep and safely store the packing or the product and let your insurance company know if it is an automobile, 2) Keep the receipts for the purchase of the defective product, 3) Obtain as much information as you can about the dangerous or defective product such as model numbers and serial numbers, 4) Obtain witness information such as names, telephone numbers, and addresses.
- SUV Rollover
SUV rollovers are often the result of defects in the design or manufacture of the SUV or defects in the parts on the SUV, such as tire failure, tire defects, poor stability design, poor suspension designs, and poor brake system designs. Once a rollover accident happens, seat belt defects, seatback failures, door lock & door latch failures, and airbag deployment defects & failures may increase the chances of severe injuries or even death. Many drivers and passengers have been seriously injured and killed because of preventable design flaws in SUVs.

- Construction Accidents
A construction site accident can cause catastrophic injuries and even death. Most accidents occurring on a construction site leave the victim out of work, severely injured, or even permanently disabled. At the Amaro Firm, our Houston, Texas construction site accidents law firm is dedicated to assisting the victims and families of victims with personal injury claims related to construction site accidents. Our firm can assist you and your family in recovering the compensation you deserve for injuries sustained in a construction accident. We will aggressively pursue claims against negligent premises, contractors, and/or subcontractors.
- Drunk Driving Accidents
A drunk-driving accident is caused where one or more drivers were impaired by alcohol, an illegal drug, or controlled substance. In most of these cases, criminal charges will be filed against the impaired individuals(s). In addition, the victim of the accident may pursue civil damages and claims against the impaired individual for compensation for his or her injuries, lost wages, pain and suffering, disfigurement, impairment, and other legal remedies. As part of our legal representation, we typically will interview witnesses, visit the accident scene, review police reports, communicate with government attorneys and police officers, and consult medical experts to build your case against a drunk-driver in an effort to build the strongest case possible.
- Electrocution
According to the Department of Labor, electrocutions are a very common cause of injury and death amongst construction workers. Almost every labor job involves some sort of electrical work - including commercial construction, residential construction, maritime work, longshore work, refinery work, and general maintenance work. Anytime a person or piece of equipment comes into contact with a power source, there is the potential for an electrocution fatality and/or bodily injury in the form of electrical burns. If you, a family member, or a loved one has sustained an injury or died as a result of an electrocution and you want to determine whether you or they have a claim for Worker's Compensation benefits and/or a possible legal claim against others for compensation, please contact us for a free consultation.
- Neck, Back, Spinal Injury and Whiplash
Neck, back, and spine injuries are common injuries associated with trauma to the body arising from auto accidents, trucking accidents, and slip and fall accidents. Whiplash is a non-medical term used to describe neck pain resulting from an injury to the soft tissues of your neck (i.e., ligaments, tendons, and muscles). It is caused by a higher than normal motion or force applied to your neck that causes movement beyond the neck's normal range of motion. Whiplash can occur in auto accidents, sporting activities, accidental falls, and assault. The speed of the automobile involved in the accident or the amount of physical damage to the car may not relate to the intensity of neck injury. Speeds as low as 15 miles per hour can produce enough force to cause whiplash, whether or not they wear seat belts at the time of the accident.
- Pedestrian Accidents
As many people know, pedestrians almost always have the right of way on our roadways and streets. Many times the unfortunate victim of a traffic accident turns out to be an innocent pedestrian standing on a corner, a person walking across a cross walk, a person walking to a car in a parking lot, a person waiting for a bus, or a child playing outside. Motorists are a major cause of pedestrian accidents and must drive with greater care, especially through areas with high pedestrian traffic - urban areas, parking lots and garages, school zones, and near school and commercial bus stops. Many vehicle-pedestrian accidents are the result of a negligent driver that either disregarded the speed limit or a traffic signal, was distracted on a cell phone, or was driving while intoxicated. These drivers do not see the pedestrian until it is too late and an accident is imminent.
- Premises Liability
Premises liability includes all claims from injuries that can arise from slip-and-fall accidents, dog bites, assaults, and unsafe building conditions. Sometimes, businesses are aware of prior conditions but do not take the necessary steps to protect the public and invitees. Our firm understands that people can be injured on some else's property due to the owner's negligence. Our premises liability law firm has successfully represented clients injured from falls, animal attacks, assault, wet/slippery/uneven flooring, falling objects, and neglected objects. Premises liability injuries can occur on any public, private, or commercial property, including: Shopping Malls, Parking Lots / Ramps, Public Walkways, Stadiums, Hotels / Motels, Supermarkets, Gyms, Work, Apartments, Public parks or offices, and, Amusement Parks.
- Refinery and Plant Explosions
Refineries and plants are dangerous places to work. Accidents from a plant explosion, fire, or chemical release may result in serious injury or death to the laborers on-site and to those living nearby off-site. Many of these explosions, fires, and chemical release accidents are preventable. The injuries or deaths from these accidents are usually due to negligent acts and omissions of the premises owner and contractors as well as OSHA violations. Many times, the refinery and plant has a history of OSHA violations or a reputation of being a dangerous place to work. The Amaro firm represents individuals injured or killed in industrial fires, chemical releases, and explosions. We assist our clients in navigating through the complex myriad of workers' compensation claims and claims against responsible third parties which may include the premises owner and other contractors at the site.
- Slip and Fall
If you have been injured in a slip and fall accident on another person's or company's property, you may be entitled to compensation for your slip and fall injuries, medical bills, lost wages, subsequent medical treatment, and pain and suffering. If you are injured on someone else's property because of a hazard or dangerous condition that the owner should have been aware of or was aware of and ignored, you may have the right to compensation for your injuries. Do not immediately assume the blame for your slip and fall accident. A slip and fall accident can be the fault of a negligent property owner or hazardous walking conditions and is therefore not the fault of the injured party. The slip and fall attorneys at our firm accept cases on a contingent-fee basis, which means that you will not pay us any money if we do not win your slip and fall case.
- Workplace Injuries
If you have been injured on the job and your employer is a workers' compensation subscriber, you may have a workers' compensation claim. Workers' compensation benefits include: medical care, temporary disability benefits, permanent disability benefits, vocational rehabilitation services, and death benefits. However, your claim for workers' compensation benefits may not preclude a claim for compensation you may have against other responsible and negligent parties. These parties may include the premises owner or other contractors at the site. For example, may times an injured person employed for a subcontractor at a jobsite may have claims against other contractors and the premises owner. Another example may include an injured truck driver hurt by the negligence of another negligent driver.
- Wrongful Death
Wrongful death cases may include deaths caused by the negligence of a corporation or by an individual. The death may have resulted from a refinery explosion, an auto accident, a work accident, a 18-wheeler accident, or several other types of accidents. The loss of a beloved family member will affect you for the rest of your life. If you have lost a parent, spouse, or child due to someone else’s negligence, you may pursue a wrongful death claim against the negligent parties. In a wrongful death claim, you may be entitled to receive damages for the following: Loss of companionship; Loss of sexual relationships; Actual financial losses, if the person killed was the provider of the household or you were dependant on them financially; and Mental pain and suffering.
