The vast majority of group long term disability benefits insurance plans provided by employers fall under the jurisdiction of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974, known commonly by its acronym ERISA.

Social Security Disability benefits (SSDI or SSI) are difficult to obtain. There are deadlines for filing, endless paperwork to complete, and complicated guidelines for determining whether or not you will be eligible.
