Our practice areas include, but not limited to the following:- Employment Law
Termination of employment, claims for unfair dismissal, advice on redundancy plans and generally all aspects pertaining to the regulation of the employment relationship are areas that our law firm specializes and maintains active interest. Thus, it was no surprise that our law firm was chosen by the European Commission, Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Directorate to prepare Cyprus's report on the legal situation in cases of termination of employment.
- Intellectual Property
Our law firm offers a full range of contentious and non-contentious legal services in Intellectual Property Law including Patent and Trademark Registration, advice on Copyright Law, advice on Domain Name Disputes, Trade Secrets and Franchising.
- Family Law
The Family Court is the appropriate forum to adjudicate family law issues like divorce, separation from bed and board, the cohabitation of spouses, or matrimonial relations. More specifically the Family Court has jurisdiction on the following: The dissolution of any religious marriage, Greek Orthodox or any other faith (provided that such dissolution does not come within the jurisdiction of the Family Courts of the religious groups); The dissolution of any civil marriage; Family matters in court proceedings instituted under the provisions of bilateral or multilateral treaties to which Cyprus is a signatory; and Matters of parental support, maintenance, acknowledgement of paternity, adoption, property relations between spouses, and any other conjugal or family dispute, provided the parties or one of the parties are resident in the Republic.
- Property Law
Property law is a key area of our practice. Our managing partner is member of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Association of Immovable Property Owners, and we advice regularly on property law related issues. Our clients are primarily from the UK and the local market. Some of the services that we provide are: Confirmation of the ownership of the property; Checking the property has any charges; Checking the credibility of the seller; Inspecting if the necessary permits are in place like for example town planning permit, building permit etc.; Drafting the contract of sale; Depositing the contract of sale at the land registry; and, Obtaining, where necessary, permits from the Council of Ministers.
- Debt Collection
Debt collection is one of the areas that our law firm is maintains an active practice. This is a difficult area given the problems that we have in Cyprus with the execution of court judgments. We usually work on a success fee up to the point before filing a law suit. The first step we take in a debt collection case is to send a letter which informs the debtor that we are Debt Collectors and that we have taken over management of the client's account and that they should make full payment by return of post. If they do not respond a Final Demand giving notice of legal action is sent stating that legal action will follow which could lead to bankruptcy or the winding up of the debtor company. If there is still no response, polite but firm phone call are made in a final attempt to resolve the debt. If payment or an agreed payment schedule is not agreed at this stage we can usually follow through to legal action and enforcement.
- Administrative Law
As it has been said Administrative Law deals with the organization of, and functions performed by, various administrative agencies of government and other administrative authorities, the limits and restrictions which govern these functions, as well as the extent to which these limits and restrictions may be utilized by a citizen to obtain relief from the courts. So what things are covered by Administrative Law? To put it in layman terms we would include the following:
1. Instances where the government has taken a decision (or failed to take a decision) in relation to licenses, duties, taxes;
2. If you are a public servant (in the government, a public corporation or a municipality) things like appointments, transfers, promotions are all administrative law related.
3. If you file a public tender with a public authority and is rejected then most probably you have an administrative act.
