Law Firm Overview
Domengeaux Wright Roy & Edwards was originally founded in 1957. Our roots and foundation are born from Mr. Domengeaux who began practicing law in the Depression era of the 1930s, and who later went on to serve the state of Louisiana in the United States House of Representatives.
We have spent the past half century working with clients along the Gulf Coast and throughout the world in matters of personal injury, auto and truck accidents, offshore accidents, maritime law, class actions, toxic torts and workers' compensation. We have grown from our humble beginnings to become one of Louisiana's premier law firms with nine attorneys and a highly trained supporting staff.
Practice Areas
Practice Areas Description
Our practice includes:- Personal Injury
Our attorneys provide a comprehensive range of legal services, backed by experience, resources and reputation. We represent clients who have suffered a personal injury, maritime injury, amputation or brain injury as a result of: Automobile, truck, 18-wheeler and other motor vehicle accidents; Wrongful death; Production platforms; Offshore drilling vessels and inland vessels; Supply and crew boats; Tugs, barges and lay barges; Dredges; Aviation/Helicopter accidents; Commercial diving; Defective products; Class actions; Toxic torts; Train derailments; and Professional malpractice.
- Business litigation
Individuals are often victims of wrongful conduct of another individual or business. Likewise, businesses can be damaged by the wrongful conduct of another business. If your business is the unfortunate victim of a breach of contract, unfair trade practice or monopolistic practice, we may be able to seek justice for your business. Also, our trial experience is invaluable in negotiating and reviewing contracts before they are signed.
- Consumer litigation
Some businesses seem to value profits over fair dealing and safety. We believe that we have the ability and the resources to put together litigation teams capable of taking on big business to protect the rights of persons injured by such businesses. We have been active in class actions involving toxic torts and consumer litigation for many years.
- Workers' compensation
One of the more common types of accidents involving personal injury is an accident that occurs while at work. A special set of laws, as well as rules and regulations, affect an individual when he or she is hurt on the job. An experienced workers compensation attorney can help the injured worker plot a course that best secures prompt medical care and swift recovery of disability benefits. The employer and their insurers employ various tools and professionals to help them limit their financial liability to an injured worker. As a result, the employee often falls victim to overreaching employers and insurers desperate to reduce their liability at the expense of the injured worker.
- Social Security Disability
Social Security is not only for retirement. If you are unable to work because of severe physical or mental impairments, you may be entitled to either Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security Income benefits. Bill Ziegler, of counsel to the firm, has represented thousands of Social Security Disability and Supplemental Security Income claimants. He handles not only hearings before Administrative Law Judges, but further appeals before the Social Security Administration's Appeals Council and court actions reviewing the administration's decisions.
- Wills and successions
Wills are basically a written testament as to how a person before death wishes his or her assets and property to be distributed after death. The will indicates to whom and in what proportions his property and assets will go to upon his death. With a will, a party insures that their wishes will be complied with after their death. Typical issues covered in a will could include who will run a family business, who will be appointed tutor or guardian of minor children and who will be appointed to administer your estate. Most parties should have a will, unless they do not care what happens after their death. Wills are important due to the fact that in the absence of a valid will the State of Louisiana will make all the provisions as to the division of your property. Also, in the making of a will there are certain other considerations such as Louisiana's Forced heirship laws that must be considered.
