Law Firm Overview
I earned a Ph.D. in physics in 1977 and was a professor of electrical engineering for ten years. I am licensed to practice law in all state and federal courts in Massachusetts, plus the U.S. Supreme Court. Most of my work is concentrated in areas of law that are related to my 18 years of research experience in science and engineering. My knowledge and experience in science and engineering may be relevant not only to quickly understanding your problem, but also in finding a solution. I concentrate in three areas of law:1. computer law
2. academic issues in education law, particularly colleges and universities, and
3. copyright law.
I also consult to litigators nationwide on scientific evidence in torts involving technology, including legal research.
I have programmed computers since 1968. I believe that computers, as the principal tool of the information society that is succeeding the industrial society, offer many wonderful opportunities to help people, but they also offer new opportunities to harm people. I concentrate in cyberspace and online law, copyright and trademark infringement in cyberspace, misuse of computers, products liability for software or hardware (e.g., liability for malfunction of computer hardware or software, duty to maintain reliable equipment and software), duty to maintain secure data (i.e., privacy, trade secrets), information technology, and privacy law.
In part because I was a full-time student in universities for 13 years and a professor for another 10 years, I am interested in legal problems that occur in colleges and universities: academic freedom for professors, misconduct in scientific research, plagiarism, authorship disputes, injury in a science laboratory, misuse of computers, copyright law (e.g., copying of books and periodicals by instructors for use in classes), developing rules and policy statements, privacy violations, etc.
