Our law firm also helps individuals and families in the estate planning process. Practice Areas Description
- DivorceIf you are contemplating filing for divorce, or if you have already been served with a complaint for divorce, it is important that you know just what is at stake. Your divorce will greatly impact the amount of time you are able to spend with your children. Your divorce will also have a major impact on your financial situation. There are a wide range of possible outcomes in every divorce. If you want to give yourself the best possible chance of achieving a favorable outcome, you should hire an experienced family law attorney.
- Child Custody
One of the hardest things to come to grips with in your divorce is that you will not be able to spend as much time with your children. This is one reason why child custody and visitation issues can be such a source of disagreement. If you need a lawyer who will be dedicated to your child's best interests, and your own best interests, contact the San Antonio-based law firm of Efron & Efron, Inc. Since 1971, we have represented individuals and families in Bexar County and beyond.
- Child Support
Child support is one of the many issues that must be resolved in your divorce. Under Texas law, child support is based largely on the Texas Child Support Guidelines, a statutory formula. Under these guidelines, judges do not have a lot of discretion. There are, however, steps your attorney can take to make certain that your income and the other parent's income are accurately calculated. At Efron & Efron, Inc., we have helped people across San Antonio and beyond reach fair resolutions to child support issues.
- Property Division
Aside from child custody matters, property division issues can be some of the most contentious issues in a divorce. The way in which your property is divided will go a long way in determining how you move forward after your divorce. An experienced lawyer can be of great assistance in making sure you are treated fairly. At Efron & Efron, our law firm is dedicated to helping people from all walks of life obtain an equitable share of the marital estate.
- Domestic Partnership
Texas does not recognize civil unions or same-sex marriage. However, gay and lesbian couples still face many of the same issues that married couples face. If gay or lesbian partners want to formalize their rights and responsibilities to each other, it is necessary to prepare a domestic partnership agreement. The law firm of Efron & Efron, Inc., is based in San Antonio, and represents families across Bexar County and beyond. Our attorneys can help you prepare or review a domestic partnership agreement that fully reflects your wishes.
- Military Divorce
If you serve in the military, or if your spouse serves in the military, it is important to understand that there are a number of issues in a military divorce that are not present in a divorce between civilians. There are numerous federal and state laws at issue. As a result, you need a lawyer who has a complete understanding of these many different factors. Since 1971, Efron & Efron, Inc., has handled countless military divorces for people stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base. We also represent servicemen and women who live in Bexar County but are stationed elsewhere.
- Guardianship
Guardianships are necessary when a person cannot take care of himself or herself. A guardian is necessary when a child with special needs reaches the age of 18, or when a person becomes incapacitated and is no longer able to take care of his or her needs. If you feel it is necessary to establish a guardianship for a loved one, it will be imperative to hire an attorney who is experienced in these matters. Attorneys Jack Efron and Barry Efron of Efron & Efron, Inc., have helped people in guardianship proceedings.
- Divorce Modification
When your divorce was made final, you may have felt relieved, or even happy. When your divorce was finalized, it signified the closing of one chapter in your life and the beginning of a new one. Of course, in the years and months after your divorce, you may come to realize that the terms of your divorce agreement do not reflect the realities of this new chapter in your life. If you need to change the terms of your child custody, child support or spousal support arrangements, an experienced lawyer can help you through the legal process.
- Prenuptial Agreement
Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements are a practical way to set out each party's rights and responsibilities. Prenuptial agreements are particularly useful in second or subsequent marriages, or when one or both parties have children or own substantial assets. In order for a prenuptial or postnuptial agreement to be enforceable in court, it must meet a number of specific legal requirements. The attorneys of Efron & Efron, Inc., have prepared many prenuptial and postnuptial agreements since our firm's founding in 1971. We can help you prepare an agreement that will clearly outline your rights and will hold up to any later legal challenges.
- Enforcement of Divorce
Your divorce agreement explains your rights and responsibilities, as well as your ex-spouse's rights and responsibilities, in matters such as property division, child support, alimony and child custody. You and your ex-spouse are required to follow the terms of this agreement. Unfortunately, one spouse may refuse to comply with these orders. If you need to enforce the terms of your divorce agreement, the lawyers of Efron & Efron, Inc., can help.
- Adoption
Adopting a child is one of the kindest, most loving things a person can do. In order to complete the adoption process, it is necessary to meet a number of legal requirements. At Efron & Efron, Inc., our adoption attorneys have helped families of all kinds adopt children. We are able to handle every kind of adoption, from stepparent adoptions and grandparent adoptions to international adoptions, adoptions from an agency and same-sex adoptions.
- Estate Planning
Estate planning is one of those issues that can be difficult to discuss in any detail. No one really enjoys talking about what will happen when they die or if they become incapacitated. Even though estate planning is not necessarily a pleasant topic of conversation, it is still an important part of any person's life. If you do not have an estate plan, your assets may not go to who you intended. Of equal importance, estate planning can give your loved ones guidance as to your wishes in the event you become unable to express your wishes.
- Probate
If you have been named as the personal representative or the executor of an estate, you have been entrusted with an important duty. If you do not handle these matters regularly, you may not have a full understanding of your role. An experienced probate lawyer can be of vital assistance in helping you complete these various tasks and fulfilling your duties to the estate.
- Estate Litigation
In theory, every will, trust or other estate planning instrument should clearly and accurately reflect the wishes of the deceased. In theory, trustees, executors or others tasked with administering an estate will perform their duties to the letter of the law.
- Real Estate
The purchase or sale of any piece of land is a major transaction. An experienced lawyer can serve an important role in making certain that every party to the transaction understands its rights and responsibilities. Efron & Efron, Inc., represents clients in all aspects of residential and commercial real estate transactions. Our clients in our real estate practice include developers, contractors, landlords, tenants, and purchasers and sellers of property. We have extensive experience counseling and advising clients on property issues such as deeds, leases, easements, rights of way, title examinations and loan documents. We have experience with a wide variety of transactions. As a result, we are often able to anticipate our clients' challenges and problems. In this way, we are able to respond to our clients' problems with creative and efficient solutions.
