- Avandia®
The type 2 diabetes medication, Avandia®, has been linked to an increase in the risk of heart attack, stroke and congestive heart failure. In September 2010, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) limited use of the drug to patients who did not respond to other diabetes drugs. Contact Flood Law Group, LLP to schedule a free review of your case.
- Cerebral Palsy/Birth Injury
Cerebral palsy is caused by brain damage that results in abnormal movement of different parts of the body. This includes the muscles of the face that affect speech. The disorder is permanent, but does not get worse over time. Usually, children are born with cerebral palsy, but there are cases of CP that result from brain injury in the first few months or years of life. This damage can result from a brain infection, a head injury, an accident, a fall or child abuse.

Our team of personal injury lawyers is available to review personal injury claims for individuals and families nationwide. Our attorneys have extensive experience in a complete range of personal injury cases. - Medical Malpractice
When doctors, nurses, surgeons, or other healthcare providers make mistakes, the results can be devastating. The attorneys at Flood Law Group, LLP have extensive experience handling medical malpractice claims on behalf of injured patients and their families. Medical malpractice is a highly specialized field of law and is difficult to prove. Most doctors and hospitals have their own team of attorneys who are experienced and aggressive. It is important to hire an attorney with experience in medical malpractice claims who will be able to stand up to large hospitals and their insurance companies.
- Accutane®
Accutane® is a drug that was recalled from the market in 2009 because of the serious side effects it produced in patients. The generic name for Accutane® is isotretinoin. The medication was used to treat severe nodular acne.
- Actos®
Actos®, which is prescribed along with a healthy diet and exercise to treat type 2 diabetes, has been linked to an increase in the risk of bladder cancer and congestive heart failure in some patients.
- Aviation Accidents
While flying is generally considered safe, when an aviation accident occurs, the results can be devastating. Plane crashes can be caused by a number of factors, including human error, harsh weather conditions and equipment failures.
- Benzene
Benzene is a flammable liquid that is colorless and smells sweet. When exposed to air, it evaporates quickly. Benzene does occur naturally and is released from forest fires and volcanic eruptions, but most often benzene comes from man's activities. Our biggest exposure to benzene is in the workplace.
- Class Actions
A class action is a lawsuit filed by one or more persons on behalf of themselves and others who are in the same class. All the members of the class must share a common concern. The purpose of class action lawsuits is to allow the common man with few resources to take on a large company or other group with plentiful resources and give those in the class a chance to win.
- Crashworthiness
The term crashworthiness refers to the ability of a vehicle to keep its occupants safe in the event of an accident. In cases involving crashworthiness, the cause of the accident itself is not as important as how well the vehicle held up in the collision.
- Crestor®
Crestor® (rosuvastatin), a drug to lower cholesterol, has been linked to an increase in the risk of some serious side effects. Some researchers believe that Crestor® and other medications in its class (statins) can increase the risk of cardiomyopathy and other dangerous heart problems.
- Darvocet® & Darvon® Recall
Darvon® and the related drug Darvocet® are mild to moderate pain relievers that were both pulled from the market in November 2010 because they were found to be causing potentially life-threatening heart problems. The medications also were linked to unacceptably high rates of overdoses and suicides. Darvon® is propoxyphene and Darvocet® is propoxyphene combined with acetaminophen. The drugs had been on the market for a long time. Darvon® was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Aug. 8, 1957. Darvocet® received FDA approval 14 years later.
- DePuy Hip Implants
DePuy Orthopaedics, a division of Johnson & Johnson, recalled two types of hip implants in August 2010 after discovering that many of the systems were failing early. The two recalled hip implants are the ASR™ XL Acetabular System (sold worldwide) and the ASR™ Hip Resurfacing System (sold only outside the U.S.).
- Fosamax® Femur Fractures
There have been increasing numbers of reports linking bisphosphonates, a class of drugs to treat osteoporosis, with death of tissue of the jaw bone as well as broken femurs (thigh bones). Enough concern has been raised that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will sponsor an advisory committee meeting on the subject in September.
- Gadolinium/MRI Dye
Using gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) in certain patients with kidney disease could be dangerous and lead to a rare, but serious condition called nephrogenic systemic fibrosis (NSF), according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
- Hydraulic Fracturing
A huge supply of natural gas lives beneath the surface of the earth. Drilling companies have adopted a new method known as hydraulic fracturing or "fracking" to extract the gas. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), by 2020, more than 20 percent of the nation's gas supply will be shale gas.
- Nursing Home Abuse
Nursing home residents are especially vulnerable to abuse. Physically or mentally debilitated or both, they have little recourse to defend themselves from anyone who chooses to harm them bodily, emotionally or financially. The personal injury attorneys at Flood Law Group represent individuals and families who are affected by nursing home abuse and/or neglect.
- SSRI Birth Defects
SSRIs have been linked to an increase in the risk of serious birth defects in infants whose mothers take the drugs while pregnant. Women of childbearing age should be aware of these risks and should consult their doctor if they become pregnant or are planning a pregnancy while taking the medication.
- Stevens Johnson Syndrome
Stevens Johnson Syndrome (SJS) is a systemic (affecting the whole body) allergic reaction of the skin and the mucus membranes. More than half the cases of Stevens Johnson Syndrome are due to an allergic reaction to medication. Stevens Johnson syndrome affects patients of all ages and ethnicities.
- Transvaginal Mesh
Transvaginal mesh is a metal or polymeric screen device meant to be implanted surgically to reinforce the walls of the vagina when they are weakened by pelvic organ prolapse (POP). After the stress of childbirth, the organs in the pelvis often prolapse or sag into the walls of the vagina, causing pain, discomfort and other complications.
- Traumatic Brain Injury
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) usually is caused when force is applied to the brain. It may be caused by a sharp blow to or bump on the skull, making the brain shake and jam into the skull. Other brain injuries can be caused by something that penetrates the skull, such as a bullet. A shattered fragment of the skull can also create a TBI.
- Zocor®
The 80 mg dosage of Zocor® (simvastatin), prescribed to treat high cholesterol, needs to be sharply lowered to avoid myopathy, according to a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alert.
