Mr. Gibson has over 35 years of experience in the construction industry — as a construction worker, as a hydraulic control systems and equipment designer and technician, as a machinist and welder, as a professional engineer, and then as a Florida Board Certified Attorney in Construction Law. Mr. Gibson is one of only 150 out of the 84,000 attorneys in Florida that is Board Certified in Construction Law by the Florida Bar (inaugural class). Mr. Gibson represents persons and entities involved in the construction and development industries concerning complex legal and environmental issues arising from the planning, design, and construction processes, as well as the operation and maintenance of commercial, industrial and public facilities. Mr. Gibson has successfully represented parties in some of the most well known (or infamous) construction defect water intrusion IAQ cases to date — Martin County Courthouse, Polk County Admin Complex, Harbour House Condo Conversion (The first Mold Class Action Case certified in the U.S.). Mr. Gibson's practice also includes transactional work related to construction and development projects, including Green Building and sustainability issues, drafting construction contract documents, contract negotiation and issues concerning project development, permitting and financing, as well as intellectual property issues relating thereto.
Mr. Gibson is a member of the Panel of Construction Arbitrators for the American Arbitration Association, and he has been appointed to the AAAs Advisory Panel for the Middle and Northern Districts of Florida. Gibson Law is committed to being green. Gibson Law is a Member Firm of the USGBC (United States Green Building Council) and the FGBC (Florida Green Building Coalition). Mr. Gibson is one of only 30 out of the 84,000 attorneys in Florida that is certified by the USGBC GBCI (Green Building Certification Institute) as a LEED AP (LEED Accredited Professional).
Mr. Gibson received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Florida. Thereafter, he worked as an engineer performing design and construction services for TECO Energy (Tampa Electric Company) and TECO Power Services (TECOs Independent Power and Alternative Energy subsidiary) in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Gibson worked on the design, construction, startup and commissioning of a number of TECO Energy power plants and related buildings and structures, including coal and oil-fired units and gas turbines, as well as oil-to-coal conversion projects and fuel transportation, unloading and processing facilities.
