Law Firm Overview Free Consultation

Gray Granberry & Jones, Attorneys at Law are former prosecutors in Brazos County. Handling both adult and juvenile matters, they tried many cases before countless juries. In fact, Jay Granberry and Earl Gray successfully prosecuted some of the most publicized and difficult cases during their time with the Brazos County District Attorney's Office. They now use their understanding of the local criminal justice system and its personnel to defend people accused of all types of crimes. We are criminal defense lawyers who focus on alcohol related matters, drug crimes, sex crimes, and violent offenses such as assault. Our criminal law practice is comprehensive, providing dedicated legal representation to anyone charged with a felony or misdemeanor.

Our firm employs a dedicated investigator, Fred Gray, who helps collect and review evidence so that the attorneys understand the facts of the case as fully as the prosecution. The staff also includes an experienced legal assistant, Teresa Howell. The law office is conveniently located in downtown Bryan on Main and 26th streets, just two blocks from the courthouse and just minutes from the Texas A & M and Blinn College campuses. We represent individuals in state and federal courts throughout Texas. Clients include residents of Brazos County, and students at Texas A & M University and Blinn College. They also have defended out-of-county people who needed a local attorney to represent them in DWI / DUI matters, drug crime charges, and sex crimes cases.

Gray & Granberry, Attorneys at Law, will take you through the entire legal process, from possibly working out an agreed Bond or a P.R. (Personal Recognizance) Bond, through the arrest process, through the ultimate disposition. Both attorneys know the local legal scene. In fact, attorney Jay Granberry was a 2006 candidate for judge of the Brazos County court-at-law No. 1. His candidacy was endorsed by the Bryan/College Station Eagle newspaper, and he claimed 49% of the run-off vote. He believes this gave him a deeper understanding of local people's expectations of the legal system.

Practice Areas

Practice Areas Description

At Gray Granberry & Jones, our skilled attorneys offer aggressive criminal defense representation in a variety of areas, focusing on:

- Alcohol-related Offenses

At the Bryan/College Station law firm, Gray Granberry & Jones, Attorneys at Law, the lawyers understand the importance of DWI and alcohol-related charges. Some of them are serious misdemeanors or felonies--something you do not want on your record. Because Jay Granberry and Earl Gray are former prosecutors, they can anticipate how the prosecutors will approach the case. Because of this, they can develop the best possible defense against any alcohol-related charge. The Bryan/College Station lawyers will mount an aggressive and effective defense against charges such as: DWI /DUI; Minor in possession (MIP) or underage drinking; Making alcohol available to a minor; Public intoxication; Open container; DWI with a minor in the vehicle; Intoxication manslaughter; Date rape; Indecent exposure (Public urination).

- Drug Charges

At the Bryan/College Station, Texas, law firm, Gray Granberry & Jones, Attorneys at Law, the attorneys have years of experience both defending and prosecuting misdemeanor and felony drug charges. They know that in addition to legal consequences, conviction of even a misdemeanor drug charge can affect your future. Some jobs may become closed to you. Some lenders will not make student loans to a person with any level of drug conviction. It is important to explore every avenue to avoid this type of penalty. The lawyers at Gray & Granberry know what to do to make a strong argument for alternative sentencing. The firm's attorneys defend people charged with all types of drug crimes, including misdemeanor drug charges, manufacture, sale, delivery and possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine or methamphetamine, as well as with any drug charge related to prescription drugs.

- Traffic Violations

While traffic violations are considered by some to be minor infractions, they actually can lead to more serious consequences. Multiple traffic violations can lead to a license suspension or revocation. If you are caught driving with a suspended license, this is considered a Class B misdemeanor and subject to fines and surcharges. You do not have to accept a traffic violation or immediately admit guilt by paying the fine. A traffic violations attorney can help you keep it off of your record. Traffic violations not only cost you money but can also lead to higher insurance rates. We can represent you in traffic court and fight to keep a violation off of your record as well as keep your license. Traffic violations can include: Speeding tickets; Running a red light; Failure to stop at a stop sign; Driving with a suspended license; Driving with a revoked license; Reckless driving; DUI/DWI.

- Sex Crimes

Simply being accused of a sex crime is traumatic. You will carry that stigma with you for many years. Being convicted is life altering. You may be required to register as a sex offender, and may be limited as to where you can live and work. It is important to have an attorney by your side who fights the charges, offers sentencing alternatives, and works hard to preserve your rights. You have already been convicted in the court of public opinion just because of the charges you face. Don't let the system convict you twice. The attorneys at Gray Granberry & Jones have provided an aggressive and effective defense to individuals charged with sex offenses such as: Date rape and use of "date rape drugs"; Solicitation of a minor; Possession of child pornography; Aggravated sexual assault; Sexual assault; Indecent exposure; Indecency with a child; Rape; Statutory rape.

- Violent & Assault Crimes

Many times a scuffle in a bar or club can turn into a violent crime or assault charge. Assault and aggravated assault charges can mean years in jail and a criminal record. If you have been charged with a violent crime, it is crucial that you seek the help of an assault defense attorney who has the extensive experience and skills required in order to provide the most vigorous defense possible. Violent crimes charges include: Assault; Aggravated assault; Assault with a deadly weapon; Domestic assault; Sexual assault; Involuntary or voluntary manslaughter; Murder/homicide. There are many defenses your attorney can make against your violent crimes charge, including self defense and mutual fighting. You may have been drawn into a fight at a bar or club only because you were trying to defend yourself. Your actions of self defense may have unfortunately resulted in injury to another person. However, we can make the argument of self defense in order to fight your assault or assault-related charges.

- Juvenile Crimes

It is important for you to understand that there is a "value ladder" tied to many juvenile charges: The higher the cost of the damage of your crime, the higher it costs to fix it and the higher the consequences are for you. The firm will seek to avoid those increased consequences, seeking alternative sentencing, such as deferred prosecution or informal probation. The firm's lawyers have extensive experience providing aggressive juvenile defense in a variety of areas, including: Underage DUI; Juvenile sex crimes; Petty theft charges, especially shoplifting; Vandalism, including graffiti, keying cars and breaking windows; Criminal mischief. Also, two of the firm's attorneys have experience as former juvenile prosecutors. They know what the prosecution is looking for, and how the prosecution will approach your case and respond to any plea bargain proposals.

- Fraud and Embezzlement

Persons convicted of white collar crimes — such as fraud or embezzlement — face more than a fine and a few years in jail. An embezzlement charge can prevent you from getting jobs and may ruin your professional and personal reputation. Even if you are only under investigation, the effects on your life can be serious. If you have been charged with theft or embezzlement, or if you are under investigation for the crimes, it is critical you have an experienced criminal defense lawyer on your side. The lawyers at Gray Granberry & Jones have years of courtroom experience, both prosecuting and defending people charged with fraud and embezzlement. They will protect the rights of those accused of: Stealing from the cash registers; Running ponzi schemes; Fixing the books; Spending company money on trips; Double billing clients; Falsifying services and credentials; And other white collar crimes.
