He has over 25 years of legal experience, so he has likely encountered the same issues facing you while representing past clients. In addition to his invaluable practical experience, he has also taught family law to other lawyers and legal professionals, and has authored numerous legal form and reference books. Prior to opening the practice in 1985, Mr. Hood served 25 years in the Navy, where he rose to the rank of Captain and held command at sea. He is also a former Comptroller at the Norfolk Naval base. As a former military man, he brings the discipline, commitment, and dedication which made him successful serving our country to the practice of law. Because of Mr. Hood's military background, we proudly serve many military clients (and their non-military spouses) in military divorce, family law, and real estate, and matters.

He is also a past President of the local Legal Aid Society. Joe Hood also holds several board positions, including serving on the Boards of Directors for the Virginia Beach Symphony, Hampton Roads Naval Historical Foundation, and the Virginia Beach Library, and served as a member of the City of Virginia Beach Resort Advisory Commission.
