The Law Offices of Disrud and Garcia represents people from Texas in family law, bankruptcy, military law, estate planning, probate and criminal defense. We also represent people from out of state who have family law cases in Texas, as well as military service members from around the world. In addition to being a lawyer with 20 years of experience, Jon Disrud is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a judge advocate when on active duty and has extensive experience with military law, including courts-martial, medical discharge and military divorce. Attorney Disrud is joined by John Garcia, a lawyer who has 12 years of experience.

Together, we provide legal services including family law, estate planning, probate, Chapters 7 and 13 bankruptcy, and state and federal criminal defense. We often handle complex cases such as high net-worth estates and highly contentious divorces. While we approach all cases with respect for all parties involved, we are prepared to aggressively pursue your interests in court when necessary. - Family Law

Our family law practice covers the following matters: Divorce; Military divorce; Child custody; Child support; Adoption; Guardianships; Modifications to court orders; Enforcement/contempt of court orders; and Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. Attorney Jon Disrud has 20 years of experience in family law. He is able to think creatively and pursue solutions that may not occur to a less experienced lawyer. He understands that some cases are going to be adversarial, and he will fight hard for you in court when necessary. However, some families need solutions that are not acrimonious. In these cases, he will help you work through problems in a family-friendly way.

- Bankruptcy

In these challenging economic times, bankruptcy has become extremely common. Many people have lost their jobs and are unable to keep up with high mortgage payments. Some are relying on credit cards for everyday needs such as groceries and gas. Even people with steady jobs can become overwhelmed by debt after an injury or illness leaves them with medical bills. We can discuss your financial situation and determine if bankruptcy is right for you. If you choose to file, we can help you with: Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. Depending on the type of debt and assets you have, bankruptcy might not be the answer. If bankruptcy is not the right solution, we will tell you up front. - Criminal Defense

We represent people charged with felonies and misdemeanors, including federal and state offenses such as: DUI and DWI; Drug offenses; Sex crimes; Assault; Weapons charges; Family violence; Theft, burglary and robbery; Juvenile crimes; and Military courts-martial. It is not advisable to fight the state of Texas, or the U.S. legal system, on your own. They have nearly unlimited resources. You need an attorney to look out for your rights. We will examine the evidence against you as well as the police procedure used during your arrest. If your Constitutional rights were violated, we can argue to have evidence suppressed or charges dismissed.

- Court-Martial Defense

Attorney Jon Disrud is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. He was a judge advocate when he was on active duty and has considerable experience with court-martial proceedings. He represents service members from all branches of the service, whether they reside in Texas or anywhere in the world. He can represent you in the following actions: Administrative actions and separations; Board of correction and military record appeals; Criminal actions; Article 32 proceedings; Article 15 proceedings; Summary courts-martial; Special courts-martial; and General courts-martial.

- Military Medical Discharge

If you are being medically separated from the military, you can challenge the separation and seek a return to duty or full medical retirement. I can represent you at medical disability hearings before the physical evaluation board (PEB). I can help you appeal the PEB's decision if their findings do not accurately reflect the cause or severity of your injuries. Generally, service members should be entitled to medical benefits and retirement pay and benefits if they are: Injured in the line of duty while on active duty or on reserve; Diagnosed with an illness while on active duty or on reserve that was not pre-existing to their military service; and Suffering from an aggravated pre-existing condition that the military knew about and waived. Without adequate representation, you may not receive the level of benefits and medical care that you need. Let our experience work for you.

- Estate Planning

Estate planning is an extremely important issue that far too many people neglect. Regardless of the size of the estate, every adult should have at least a will in place. When a person dies intestate (without a will), the family is left with the burden of trying to administer the estate without knowing the decedent's wishes. If you need estate administration assistance, we have the experience to administer all types of estates, including high net-worth estates with complex assets. We can also provide estate planning services, such as drafting wills and trusts, as well as probate litigation.
