At Lawrence R Holmes Immigration Attorney, we focus primarily on K-1 visas, CR-1 marriage visas, I-R1 marriage visas and related matters. We help clients obtain visas for their fiancées and spouses. We are unique among immigration law firms; this is all we do. We help many clients every month bring their fiancées to the United States. We also help clients who married a foreign national while overseas bring their spouses and children home. We assist clients throughout the United States and overseas.
We are licensed to practice immigration law in all 50 states. This means that our firm's brick and mortar location in California is irrelevant; our work is conducted by telephone, e-mail, U.S. mail and fax. Although we are always available to meet our clients in person, we rarely do so. We are absolutely able to provide our clients with outstanding service, including giving them all necessary information and updates throughout the process, without them having to come to our office.
Our founding attorney, Lawrence R. Holmes, has been practicing immigration law since 1991. Since then, he has developed a reputation as a highly focused lawyer with in-depth knowledge of the fiancé(e) visa application process. Our law firm handles more K-1 visa applications than any other law firm. We have the knowledge and experience to help you bring your fiancée or spouse to the United States.
Practice Areas
Practice Areas Description
- Fiancee VisaAt Lawrence R Holmes Immigration Attorney, we file more fiancée visa applications than any other law firm. Our attorney has helped many clients bring their fiancées to the United States so they can be married. The visa is called the K-1 visa, and we focus primarily on this aspect of immigration law. We guide clients through the process, tell them what to expect and resolve problems or obstacles that arise while the application is being processed.
- Marriage Visa
If you married outside the United States, you may have heard about the K-3 visa that allows American citizens to bring their spouses to the U.S. Although this visa has been unavailable since February of 2010, there are alternatives for people seeking to bring their husbands or wives to the United States. Similarly, U.S. citizens may submit the same form to bring minor unmarried children to the United States. If accepted, the petition results in an IR-2/CR-2 immigrant visa for children or stepchildren. It is important to understand how the date of a marriage affects an American citizen's ability to bring stepchildren to the U.S. Our law firm can determine whether you are eligible for this option.
- Green Cards for Spouses
Most immigrants hope to obtain a green card that will allow them to remain in the United States. A green card is no longer green — it is tan — but it does give immigrants many of the benefits of living in the U.S. It is both a travel document and a work authorization. As with all complex immigration matters, it is important to get knowledgeable legal advice about the options available. Our law firm focuses on obtaining green cards for clients who entered the country on spouse or fiancé(e) visas. We help clients adjust their status and begin the process of becoming legal permanent residents. Because each person's circumstances are different, it is important to seek legal advice to learn about your specific options. In addition to helping clients understand how to obtain a green card, we provide information about the current processing time for green card applications.
- Citizenship
Although our law firm focuses on fiancee and marriage visas, and on green cards for clients who entered the U.S. on these visas, we also help clients go through the naturalization process and become citizens. We advise them about the requirements and help them undergo this often stressful process. There are several advantages to becoming a citizen, although many people have LPR for their entire lives. In addition to being available to vote, citizenship makes people eligible for federal jobs and elected offices. It is easier for citizens to bring family members to the U.S. and naturalize children born abroad. Citizens travel on U.S. passports, allowing them to get help while abroad.
- International Marriage Broker Lawyer
IMBRA, the International Marriage Broker Regulation Act (2005), requires background checks for all U.S. citizens who sponsor marriage visa applicants. It also limits multiple K visas. The stated purpose of IMBRA was to protect women who come to the United States to marry American citizens. It is a controversial law for a variety of reasons, but it is important to pay attention to its provisions to avoid delay in fiancée and marriage visa applications.
