Lidings strengthens its practice of supporting international airlines in Russia
Lidings, the leading Russian law firm, dedicated to advising foreign companies on all aspects of Russian law uses its expertise to develop strong aviation practice oriented to support international airlines in Russia.
Being the legal adviser of the leading Turkish air carrier Turkish Airlines for two years, the firms has managed not only to gain practical experience and focus on the development of the industry-oriented practice, but also to expose its expertise to the market players - airlines, airports, aircraft repair plants, storage terminals and fuel-filling stations, unveiling potential for effective development in this segment.
Lidings focuses on the seven main areas in its effort to develop an industry-oriented practice dedicated to support international airlines in Russia:
Government bodies relations - handling incoming requests of state agencies – Federal Antitrust Service, Rospotrebnadzor, Ministry of Transport, Federal Agency for Air Transport, Border Service of the Federal Security Service, Federal Customs Service, Federal Tax Service. Advising client on the substance of requests, drafting answers and reversal requests for information.

Tax planning and optimization - analysis of existing tax payments and regimes, search and implementation of tax planning strategies, negotiations with tax agencies and counterparties regarding calculation and payment of taxes.
Employment relations - advising client on various aspects of employment relations with both Russian and foreign employees of the client’s representative offices throughout Russia, representing client before civil jurisdiction courts in labor disputes.
Negotiations with counterparties - participating in written correspondence and meetings with client counterparties, preliminary checking of the client correspondence with counterparties upon request.
Legal support in moving to another airport - full range of legal services in case of transfer of flights to another airport, including negotiating new and terminating previously concluded agreements, resolution of disputes with counterparties.
It is worth noting that special working group formed to support companies particularly from aviation industry includes five experts of corporate, commercial, litigation, tax and real estate and construction practices of the firm.

Lidings announces Stepan Guzey joining the firm’s Moscow office as Counsel
Lidings, the leading Russian law firm, dedicated to advising foreign companies on all aspects of Russian law has announced Stepan Guzey joining the Moscow office as Counsel.
Prior to joining Lidings Mr. Guzey worked as a senior associate at such law firms, as Vegas Lex and Hellevig, Klein & Usov. Stepan was also a leading legal adviser at the one of the biggest Russian electrode-producing company Energoprom Management for two years.
At Lidings Stepan will specialize in advising foreign business on all aspects of M&A, corporate finance law, as well, as tax and customs.
Stepan’s experience includes consulting major transport company on a multibillion infrastructural project related to the construction of high speed rail lines, advising major Chinese financial institution Bank of Communications on investing in the large mining business-project, consulting major Russian holding on a pre-export finance facility from an international bank syndicate, consulting one of the largest power generating companies RusHydro on financing the construction of power station, advising one of the largest Russian oil companies Gazprom Neft on tax optimization, successful representation of the largest air carrier in Great Britain British Airways in tax litigation in the Supreme State Arbitrazh Court.
A graduate of the Faculty of Law at Chelyabinsk State University, Mr. Stepan Guzey also received his Ph.D. from Moscow State Law Academy and is a certified Tax Adviser. Stepan is also a member of a number of professional legal associations.

Lidings ranks among TOP 20 law firms in the Russian market
Lidings, a leading Russian law firm advising foreign business, continues to strengthen its market position by entering into the list of twenty best players of the top 50 law firms in Russia, according to a study prepared by web portal “Pravo.Ru” in collaboration with “Vedomosti” and “Ernst & Young”.
Based on the main research results Lidings came out seventeenth in the revenue ranking of top 50 law firms in Russia, a study that brought together key national and international market players.
Lidings also scored in the top in industry rankings, entering top five in the field of labor law and top ten in IP. In addition to that the firm was named among the best in the field of arbitration, corporate law, and mergers and acquisitions.
Lidings’ Managing Partner Sergey Aksenov, “Participation in the ranking enabled us to distinguish the firm’s market position in selected areas of specialization. This in our view was the most valuable outcome of the exercise, though it is good to see the firm’s revenue figures rank high on the list as well.”
The project ran by “Pravo.Ru” web portal for the second time becomes the most complete study of the Russian legal market. It is based on a detailed analysis of questionnaires submitted by over 250 companies which allows to define the best ones according to financial and statistical figures, as well as to name the leaders in 13 key areas of legal advice.
Final results of the study of the legal market in Russia were published by “Vedomosti” on 19 December 2011.

Lidings becomes legal counsel to GM in Russia

According to GM’s representatives the main criteria for choosing legal counsel in Russia was the high level of professionalism demonstrated by Lidings’ team and the firm’s position in the market that favorably distinguishes it both in terms of specialization and industry expertise.
Currently the priority areas of cooperation are the issues of corporate law, handling complaints and court representation.

General Motors in Russia
One of the world’s largest automotive companies General Motors traces its roots back to 1908. General Motors employs 209 000 people in every major region of the world and does business in more than 120 countries. GM is present in the Russian market, one of the most important markets for the company in Europe as well as in the world since 1992 and has been selling and servicing vehicles of such brands as Chevrolet, Opel and Cadillac in 152 dealer centers located in 55 cities. In 2010 GM has sold 159 376 automobiles of all brands in Russia becoming the second largest car distributor present in this market. General Motors is part of the GM Auto, an automobile assembly factory in Saint – Petersburg with production capacity of 60 000 vehicles per year.

Lidings’ partner elected to the disciplinary board of Russian-Turkish Businessmen Association
Partner and Head of Turkish Desk at Lidings Ugur Boyacioglu has been elected a member of the disciplinary board of the largest business network of the two countries - the Russian-Turkish Businessmen Association (RTIB).
Since 2007 Ugur Boyacioglu has headed Lidings Turkish Desk, a unique subdivision at Lidings dedicated to providing specialist legal advice to Turkish businesses and supporting their operations in Russia. Shortly after his joining the partnership in 2011 Mr. Boyacioglu’s work and his invaluable contribution to the development of Turkish business in Russia received high praise of RTIB’s management council which allowed him to become a member of its disciplinary board at the latest elections.

RTIB is the largest and most powerful Turkish business network in Russia.
