Attorney Langschied's background includes trials and hearings. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1985 with a degree in Political Science and from Wayne State University Law School in 1988. Since graduating from law school, he has handled or been involved with a broad range of cases, including drunk driving, driver’s license restoration, personal injury, workers’ compensation, social security disability, landlord tenant, debt collection, misdemeanors and traffic tickets.
This experience has given him a broad perspective from which to approach each new case. Practice Areas Description
With over 20 years of broad legal experience, Attorney Mark Langschied handles the following cases:- Driver’s License Reinstatement
Is your Michigan driver’s license revoked? Are you thinking about trying to restore your driving privileges? There are many hurdles to clear on the way to Michigan driver’s license reinstatement. To name a couple, your case must be successfully presented at a hearing which is similar to a trial. What’s more, the hearing officer must be clearly convinced (almost or fairly convinced isn’t good enough) that your alcohol or substance abuse problem is under control and will remain so in the future. We handle driver’s license reinstatement cases for the entire state of Michigan. Whether you are a Michigan resident or former resident now living in another state, our firm can help.
- OWI/DUI, Drunk Driving
Charged with OWI (Operating While Intoxicated) or Super Drunk Driving? Dealing with a Michigan drunk driving charge can be challenging and confusing. If this is your first involvement with the criminal system, it just adds to the difficulty. It can be baffling, intimidating and embarrassing. Questions about penalties, driving sanctions and how to defend your case are probably at the top of your list. As a Michigan OWI law firm, we can answer your questions regarding your options and what may happen.
- Traffic Tickets
People often ask if they should contest their first traffic ticket. In my experience, the answer is absolutely. If you just pay your Michigan traffic ticket and admit responsibility, your driving record is no longer clean. Most traffic ticket convictions are reported to the Michigan Secretary of State and result in points added to your driving record. The next time you get a speeding ticket or other traffic violation, the prosecutor may be less likely to negotiate a favorable agreement because of your prior record. Our attorneys will try to negotiate a favorable plea that avoids or reduces points and is not reported to the Secretary of State. This can help avoid insurance rate hikes. If a favorable plea is not possible due to the circumstances, then a formal hearing can be held which is similar to a trial.
- Minor in Possession (MIP)
Minor in Possession also known as “MIP” is one of the most common criminal matters that minors face. For parents and minors alike, it is often a very difficult situation when you’re charged with MIP. If you’re not sure where to turn, what your options are, and what may happen, we can help. Defenses may provide the basis for your case being reduced, dismissed or for an acquittal. Our possible defenses include: Chemical Test, Consuming Alcohol in a Place Where It’s Legal, Job Requires You to Possess/Transport Alcohol, Education Requirement, and Religious Ceremony. Let our experience handle your case for you.
- Driving While License Suspended or Revoked
Anyone who is charged with driving on a suspended/revoked license in Michigan knows all too well that driving is a privilege. If you’ve been driving on a revoked or suspended license in Livonia, Canton, Plymouth or Novi, Michigan, a first offense is punishable up to 93 days in jail and a fine. A second offense is punishable up to 1 year in jail and an increased fine. Also, your vehicle may be impounded and/or immobilized. Furthermore, the Michigan Secretary of State may impose an additional period of suspension or revocation. We handle DWLS and DWLR cases in Livonia, Plymouth, Canton, Northville and Novi, Michigan; we can help you safeguard your rights.
- Zero Tolerance/Minor BAC
Zero tolerance or minor blood alcohol concentration (minor BAC) is a very common criminal matter that minors face in Michigan. Zero tolerance applies to minors – those under 21 years of age. This law prohibits minors from driving with a blood alcohol concentration between .02 or .08 or the presence of any alcohol in the body. Depending upon whether it is a first or subsequent conviction, possible penalties are: Jail (No jail for first offense); Community Service; and Fines. Defenses may provide the basis for your case being reduced, dismissed or for an acquittal. Possible defenses to your minor BAC case include: Improper Arrest, Chemical Test Deficiency, and Religious Ceremony.
