Practice Areas Description

Our practice areas include:

- DUI / DWI

A DWI, DUI or OUI conviction is costly and could haunt you for many years to come. Your vehicle insurance rates may triple. The license reinstatement fee charged by the state is almost $700 by itself. Your license revocation could remain on your driving record for life even if you win your criminal case and even if you were found not guilty. A license revocation can remain on your record and be used against you by police, prosecutors and insurance companies unless you challenge it in court. We have successfully fought to prove innocence, procedural error, lack of evidence and other factors leading to reduced charges or reduced or dismissed charges for numerous clients in our over 10 years of criminal defense experience.

- Felony DUI/DWI and Repeat Offenses

At the law firm of Max A. Keller, Attorney at Law, we offer effective defense of your felony and repeat DUI, DWI and OUI charges and are skilled in arguing for reduced sentencing. Individual courts, court staff and your individual circumstances, like having a child at home, mobility issues and willingness to enter a treatment program when applicable, can all play a part in the level of sentencing you receive. We have a long record of successfully obtaining sentencing for our clients which is well below minimum mandatory requirements.

- Felonies

Laws classifying criminal charges as felonies include a broad range of violations from violent acts to Internet and financial crimes. Felonies carry harsh penalties that will almost certainly alter the course of your life if they are not effectively contested. If you get a felony conviction, you will be barred by law from holding many types of jobs. If you have been accused of a felony, take action to retain your freedom, minimize or eliminate your incarceration and financial penalties and protect your record and reputation. We have defended felony charges for 10 years, and are skilled in all defense methods and options. We have successfully argued for the suppression of evidence and outright dismissal of charges and have repeatedly proven violations of constitutional rights, police error and police misconduct. We can argue for probation instead of prison time and demonstrate that personal circumstances played a part in the alleged violation and should lead to leniency.

- Vehicular Homicide and Manslaughter

Vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter most often occur when 1) drivers have prohibited substances like cocaine, methamphetamines or heroin in their blood or 2) drivers with over-the-limit levels of alcohol in their blood injure or kill people while driving. Hit-and-run violations and driving with a revoked license can increase the level of the violation and possible punishment. If you have been accused of vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter, you can fight your charges. The law firm of Max A. Keller, Attorney at Law, has proven skills in successfully fighting criminal vehicular operation and vehicular manslaughter charges.

- White Collar Crimes

White collar crimes cases often involve hundreds or thousands of documents. Additionally, white collar crime law is complex and can involve intricate information regarding securities, taxes and finance. If you have been accused of a white collar crime, you need an experienced white collar crime defense attorney to combat your charges, protect your assets and fight for your freedom. Attorney Max Keller has defended numerous people accused of white collar crime, and has experience prosecuting white collar crimes as well. He has worked both sides of the law and understands the complicated legal and financial implications that many white collar crimes entail.

- Domestic Violence

Lawyer Max Keller can aggressively fight your domestic violence and related charges whether you know the accuser, live with him or her or have never met him or her. We can question police procedures, question the reliability of the accuser and witnesses and, if necessary, argue for leniency based on clean records, the opinion of the victim, lack of significant injuries and the effects of a lengthy incarceration or substantial fines on minor children. We can also counsel you on the advisability of pleading guilty to a minor charge, like disorderly conduct, which carries a much lighter sentence.

- Vehicle and Property Forfeiture

Property and vehicle forfeiture most often seized in regard to DWIs and drug offenses, including manufacturing, distributing and possession. Vehicles are usually seized on the second, third or other occurrence of a DWI within 10 years. Legal defense and subsequent recovery of property is most effective when innocence can be proven. Automobiles seized in DWI and drug situations are often the property of innocent and uninvolved friends, parents or other family members. We can work to prove ownership and recover property. We can also work to have your charges dismissed or have your sentenced reduced, with accompanying recovery of property. We can question police procedures, work for the suppression of evidence and argue for leniency based on clean criminal records and other factors of your personal circumstances. Pleading guilty to a lesser offense can also often lead to recovery of forfeited property.

- Sex Crimes

If you have been accused of a sex crime, fighting the charges is clearly within your best interests. At the law firm of Max A. Keller, Attorney at Law, we are fully experienced in providing aggressive sex crime legal defense and have achieved acquittal, dismissal of charges or a reduced sentence for numerous individuals throughout Minnesota. We can aggressively attack your charges and fight to prove your innocence. We can question whether the alleged act was consensual and whether the alleged victim is credible, and we can use a lack of physical evidence to protect your rights. Many people are falsely accused of sex crimes. We have cross-examined hundreds of people and know how to mount an effective defense and fight for your rights and reputation.

- Traffic Violations

Traffic violations, however, encompass a broad range of driving issues and can cause many problems, including substantial fines, increased insurance rates, suspended licenses and even criminal charges in some cases.
