Mr. Maze has handled hundreds of DUI cases and has obtained specialized knowledge in the area of DUI defense. He is certified in the standardized field sobriety tests and studies the science of breath and blood testing. Mr. Maze owns PBT machines and two BAC Datamaster machines, and he has attended factory training at the BAC Datamaster manufacturer’s company. He has also attended advanced criminal defense trial colleges and blood toxicology seminars. Mr. Maze dedicates many hours to a client’s case, reviewing the officer’s police reports as well as the officer’s prior DUI police reports, watching police car videos in DUI cases, scrutinizing BAC Datamaster logs, observing breath testing videos, listening to radio dispatch recordings, transcribing 911 calls and analyzing accident reports.
Mr. Maze employs a variety of DUI experts to assist in defending drunk driving cases. He has close relationships with some of the most renowned breath testing experts, blood testing experts, and toxicologists as well as retired police officers who have served as trainers in the course, DWI Detection and the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and the DRE drug recognition expert course.
Mr. Maze is possibly unique amongst DUI lawyers in the sheer number of repeated lawsuits against cities and police departments that he has filed to compel production of evidence in DUI cases under Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Mr. Maze has personally sued police departments to compel the release of evidence that DUI task force officers engage in unlawful stops in cities he has targeted to protect the Constitution. He has done this at his own expense because he firmly believes that the DUI laws have gotten out of control in certain jurisdictions, with judges looking to subsidize court costs with innocent motorists accused of a DUI offense.
Most importantly, however, Mr. Maze takes cases to trial. Unlike many other lawyers, Mr. Maze doesn’t simply plead clients guilty. He attempts to seriously analyze a drunk driving case to determine the best strategy for winning the case, and he regularly takes cases to trial with winning results.
