I am Anthony N. Palumbo, a partner at the law firm of Palumbo & Renaud and a criminal defense attorney with more than 35 years of trial experience in New Jersey courts. - Marijuana Offenses
Depending on the specific marijuana offense you are accused of, your case may handled in the municipal court system or the criminal court system. The most common charges are illegal possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both of which are municipal offenses. If you have been charged with a criminal marijuana offense such as possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, marijuana distribution, marijuana sale, marijuana trafficking or marijuana manufacturing (cultivation), the consequences may be more serious.

New Jersey law provides a variety of criminal and municipal offenses for stealing money, property or services, or harming someone else's property. These charges include: Burglary Arrest; Criminal Mischief Offense; Shoplifting; Unlawful taking; Auto theft; Identity Theft Law; Receiving Stolen Property; Theft of Services; Forgery; Writing bad checks; Trespassing; Vandalism Charges; Shopping offenses; Juvenile theft Offenses; and, Breaking and entering. Related charges include burglary—breaking into or entering a home or business in order to commit a crime, usually theft—and the violent crime of robbery, which involves taking something from another using force or the threat of force.
- White Collar Crimes
The term "white collar crime" is generally used to describe crimes that involve theft or misuse of property in the workplace, or other violations of professional trust. Common white collar crimes include fraud, money laundering, counterfeiting, credit fraud. identity theft, embezzlement, and insider trading. There is often a fine line between legal activity and illegal activity, especially when employees are given some leeway in handling money.
- Crime Against Children
New Jersey criminal law includes a variety of crimes against children. Any accusation of exposing children to sexual activity can be charged as a crime. Other crimes against children involve physical abuse or other mistreatment. New Jersey criminal charges involving children include: Child Sexual Assault; Crimes against Children; Child pornography; and, Child molestation. When someone is convicted of a sex-related crime against a child, New Jersey's "Megan's Law" requires that person to register as a sex offender. There are different registration requirements depending on the charge. The most stringent involve regular psychological evaluations and notification of everyone in a neighborhood if a person on the registry moves in.
- Violent Crimes
Crimes involving violence are among the most serious under New Jersey criminal law. These crimes include: Obstruction Offenses; Murder, homicide and manslaughter; Robbery and armed robbery; Violent sex offenses; Weapons offenses; Aggravated assault; Harassment; Assault/Theft crimes; Disorderly conduct; Resisting arrest/Eluding an Officer; and, Obstructing justice. The consequences of a violent crime conviction can depend on your state of mind when the alleged crime occurred. Evidence of road rage or drunkenness can lead to the belief that you had less control over your actions, and this may lead to lesser charges and less severe consequences.
- Domestic Violence
If you are accused of domestic violence in New Jersey, you may face proceedings in two separate courts. A person who makes allegations of domestic violence can seek a restraining order in domestic relations court. If the prosecutor decides to bring criminal charges, you will be prosecuted in the criminal court. - Internet Sex Crimes

Simply looking at these images is a serious crime under federal law. In building your defense, I gather all the evidence, including the record of your arrest. In Internet sex crimes, your defense often begins at the PC itself. Does anyone else have access to your PC? Were the images downloaded while you were in class or at work? How were they downloaded? Did law enforcement decide to target you?
- Disorderly Conduct
A person is guilty of Disorderly Conduct if he acts: In a public place; and With the purpose to offend the feelings of a hearer; or In reckless disregard of the probability of so doing; and He addresses unreasonably loud and offensively coarse or abusive language, given the circumstances of the person present and the setting of the utterance, to any person present. If you have been charged with Disorderly Conduct, you need an attorney that takes pride in his relationships with local prosecutors and judges.
