Pinto Wray James LLP is one of Toronto's most innovative law firms offering superior representation before the Federal and Provincial Courts and all manner of administrative tribunals. Our professionals are advocates, specializing in negotiation, mediation and litigation of legal issues leading up to court and tribunal appearances across a broad range of issues.

As litigators, we know our way around courts, tribunals and hearing rooms. But litigation is not the only way we serve our clients. And it is not always the best way to approach a legal problem. Before incurring significant fees, we evaluate your matter and assess the alternatives with a view to early resolution. Sometimes the best solution isn't the most obvious. We pride ourselves on being out-of-the-box thinkers who find creative solutions for our clients' needs.

- Administrative Law (involving Tribunals, Agencies, Boards and Commissions)
If you are an individual or a business who has a matter involving a Tribunal, Agency, Board or Commission, you are dealing with an Administrative Law issue. This complex area of law deals with the conduct of public and private authorities outside of the court system. Our deep expertise comes from publishing, teaching and chairing conferences in administrative law, but most of all from working daily in the administrative justice sector in Ontario and at the federal level. We also offer specialized expertise in bringing and responding to judicial review applications in provincial and federal courts. Such applications involve the challenge of a decision made by an administrative tribunal.

Our environmental law practice at Pinto Wray James LLP extends to regulatory regimes enacted by all levels of government. We also act quickly to obtain injunctions and are available for appeals and judicial review applications in environmental matters.
- Constitutional Law
Constitutional law involves cases in two areas: civil liberties (the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms) and division of powers (whether the provincial or federal government is responsible). Sometimes governments pass laws or act in a manner that may, in fact, be contrary to the Canadian constitution. At Pinto Wray James LLP, we have expertise in: Bringing an application challenging the constitutionality of a law or government action before a court or tribunal; Providing opinions on the constitutionality of government laws, regulations, policies and conduct; Representing intervener groups and formulating strategies to work with allied groups and individuals.
- Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
The lawyers at Pinto Wray James LLP fully utilize the ADR techniques of mediation and arbitration as part of the many options we offer our clients in resolving their issues and settling disputes. ADR is one of the primary means by which we secure timely and cost-effective solutions for our clients. Indeed, early access to ADR often ensures matters are addressed and resolved quickly, before the financial costs and emotional toll associated with the traditional court or tribunal system give disputes a life of their own. We have strong professional relationships with mediators forged over many years of settling difficult cases. Our preparation, integrity and reputation as principled negotiators provide our clients with confidence that their settlement options will be fully explored and treated with respect.
- Disability Insurance and Pension Benefits
Policies of disability insurance exist to provide income security for individuals who become disabled and are unable to work. We have strong expertise in:
• advising and representing individual policy holders whose claims have been denied
• working with medical professionals such as doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists and pain specialists to get the medical evidence needed to confirm that an individual qualifies for benefits under the policy
• successfully suing major Canadian insurance companies for breach of contract when disability insurance claims are wrongfully denied.
