Practice Areas Description

The Reynard Law Office provides legal services and representation in the following areas of law:

- Criminal Defense

An effective Columbus criminal defense attorney can assist you through the court system, ensure your rights are protected, and provide valuable insight into what is occurring. At my firm, my practice has focused on criminal defense in Columbus, Ohio since graduating law school at Ohio State in 1999. I have represented clients on everything from speeding tickets to murder in Franklin County Municipal, Common Pleas, Juvenile, Appellate, and Mayor courts. From this experience, I represent clients effectively no matter what the charge. My practice is built on providing professional help to clients facing difficult problems. I personally handle each client's case and analyze it for the best possible defense.

- Felonies

A felony conviction can lead to prison, community control (probation), hefty fines, rehabilitative treatment, and restrictions on how you live your life. This makes it necessary to hire an experienced felony attorney. Felony under Ohio law is the general name for the most serious criminal offenses. Adults and juveniles may be charged with felonies. Attorney Reynard represents clients on any felony case, including: Murder; Manslaughter; Involuntary manslaughter; Rape; Gross sexual imposition (GSI); Drug possession; Drug trafficking; Robbery; Aggravated robbery; Burglary; Aggravated burglary; Carrying a concealed weapon (CCW); Kidnapping; Theft; Felony DUI / OVI; Felonious assault; and Illegal conveyance.

- Misdemeanors

Although not as serious as a felony, misdemeanor can still lead to hefty fines, jail time, loss of other freedoms, and restrictions on your life when on probation - justifying hiring an experienced misdemeanor attorney. Misdemeanor under Ohio law is the general name for a lower level, criminal offense. It includes traffic tickets and OMVI / OVI / drunk driving cases along with other offenses like theft, gambling, disorderly conduct, etc. Adults and juveniles may be charged with misdemeanors. Attorney Reynard represents clients on any misdemeanor case, including: Theft; Drug possession; Trespassing; Domestic violence; Assault; Disorderly conduct; Carrying a concealed weapon (CCW); Gambling; Passing bad checks; DUI / OVI; No operator’s license (No Ops); Driving under suspension (DUS); Speeding; Drag racing; Reckless operation; Traffic signal violations; and Assured clear distance ahead (ACDA).

- DUI / OVI

Ohio DUI laws make it illegal for any person, anywhere in Ohio, to operate a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or to operate a vehicle with a prohibited level of alcohol or drugs in their blood. As a Columbus DUI attorney, I work with clients to analyze their case, defend their rights in court, get driving privileges, and relieve the anxiety inherent in a DUI accusation. I represent clients in Central Ohio courts on DUI and related traffic offenses. I work with clients to understand exactly what occurred before, during, and after their DUI arrest. I also investigate the police allegations by reviewing police reports, breathalyzer records, and video tapes and by visiting the scene of the arrest when necessary. A thorough investigation and experience with the local court system coupled with a knowledge of the law leads to better resolutions for clients.

- Traffic Violations

In my practice I have represented hundreds of people accused of traffic violations. While the vast majority of tickets are just paid, some people just cannot afford a ticket on their record, whether it be for fear of losing their license or their job. I am experienced in handling client speeding tickets and other Columbus, Ohio traffic tickets with the goal of obtaining the best possible outcome. I work with clients, the court system, and the BMV to keep clients on the road. My practice provides services in Central Ohio courts on any traffic ticket, including: DUI / OMVI / OVI / drunk driving; Speeding tickets; No operator’s license (No Ops); Driving under suspension (DUS); Drag racing; Reckless operation; Traffic signal violation; and Assured clear distance ahead (ACDA).

- Driving Under Suspension

Driving while your license is suspended is a serious violation in Ohio. As a first degree misdemeanor, you face up to 6 months in jail and a $1,000 fine, in addition to specific driving under suspension (DUS) penalties. On a first or second conviction for DUS, your car will be immobilized for 30 or 60 days. On a 3rd or subsequent conviction, the court will order a criminal forfeiture of your car to the State. It should be noted that the immobilization and forfeiture provisions are generally only applicable if the car you were driving is registered in your name. However, driving someone else's car while under suspension could expose that person to criminal liability for permitting you to drive (wrongful entrustment), which exposes them to immobilization and/or forfeiture penalties under a separate statute.

- Juvenile Law

Juveniles enjoy the same constitutional protections that adults do when facing criminal charges. There are also intricate laws that deal with juvenile delinquency matters. For these reasons, it is important that they obtain experienced counsel when appearing in court. Juveniles facing criminal charges are proceeded against in the Juvenile Court of their local county. Juveniles may be charged with essentially any crime for which an adult may be charged. If found guilty, they are considered "delinquent" and subject to a wide range of penalties from fines, probation, and child service board placements, to "prison" in the Ohio Department of Youth Services.
