Law Firm Overview Free Consultation

Richards & Richards, LLP was established in 1968 by the late John Richards, Jr. The law firm is now managed by his children Attorneys Veronica A. Richards and John T. Richards, III. The firm has six attorneys, each with their own unique qualifications. We are dedicated to helping people who have been the victims of medical malpractice, doctor negligence or suffered a catastrophic injury because of someone else's carelessness.

In addition to our ability to review medical documents and understand the jargon used by health care professionals, we regularly consult with recognized physicians, medical specialists, and nurses for input in evaluating your treatment, your future recovery and your need for future medical services.

Because of our strong belief in improved patient safety by holding physicians and medical professionals accountable to the patients they treat, we are very selective about the cases we agree to take. Our clients generally come to us with the most severe types of injuries and suffer long-term disability as a result of medical negligence. Since we recognize that many of the cases we decline to take do have merit, we try to help you get representation from other qualified medical malpractice attorneys in the area.

When you meet with us to discuss a medical malpractice claim, you can be assured that we won't put pressure on you to do what you're not willing to do. We will explain how we think we can help you and then move forward with our investigation - all at no charge to you. We will keep in touch with you throughout the lawsuit process; you are always free to call us for any reason.

Practice Areas Description

At Richards & Richards, our experience with the investigation and proof of personal injury or wrongful death claims against negligent doctors, nurses and hospitals can help you in such cases as the following:

- Medical Malpractice

At the Pittsburgh law firm of Richards & Richards, our lawyers advise and represent clients in the most serious medical malpractice cases — those resulting in permanent disability or death.

- Radiology Errors

Our examination of the evidence in medical malpractice cases involving claims of negligent misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis often shows that a radiology error was a primary reason for a tragic patient outcome. In one case, the radiologist failed to spot a malignant tumor in a knee joint. In radiology, the patient cannot afford errors in the use of diagnostic tools that can save lives.

- Misdiagnosis of Illness

Serious diseases, medical conditions or illnesses can't be treated effectively unless your health care provider has an accurate diagnosis of your problem. While some illnesses are very rare or notoriously difficult to diagnose correctly, an experienced medical malpractice lawyer can advise you whether misdiagnosis in your case was the result of your doctor's negligence.

- Delayed Diagnosis of Cancer

It's hard to know how many cancer fatalities could have been avoided if a proper diagnosis of a malignancy had been made in time to save the patient's life. What makes many forms of cancer dangerous is the risk that it will spread through the body and attack tissues or organs that are especially vulnerable or difficult to treat. A timely diagnosis can be just as important as an accurate diagnosis to save a patient's life.

- Injury & Damages Claims

We support every detail of your damages claim with expert testimony. Members of our damages team might include a life-care planner, a neuropsychologist, a physiatrist, a rehabilitation specialist, and anyone else whose input will shed light on your specific current and future needs. We help our clients with damages claims related to such injuries as the following: Spinal cord injury, including paralysis or quadriplegia; Traumatic brain injury; Acquired brain injury; Cerebral palsy; Hospital-acquired infections; Amputation; Organ failure.

- Wrongful Death

There is nothing more tragic than losing a loved one. The last thing you should have to worry about at a time like this is money. Yet often, when a loved one is killed, survivors face difficult financial issues. The Pittsburgh medical malpractice law firm of Richards & Richards, LLP, has spent more than 35 years battling the most powerful opponents to get our clients the money they need to move on with life. If you have lost a loved one and you suspect that medical mistake is to blame, you may not be sure where to turn. The doctors, nurses and hospitals have most likely quit answering your questions.

- Birth Injuries

A successful birth injury case depends on medical knowledge as much as it depends on solid legal knowledge. Childbirth is a complicated procedure, and there are hundreds of potential mistakes or errors that can cause severe, permanent injury. For example, the wrong medication may be given, the decision to induce labor may be made too late, a physician or midwife may misuse instruments, or there may be errors made with the administration of the anesthetic. Learning the exact cause of a birth-related injury takes many hours of detailed investigation into all of the facts surrounding the birth. Birth injury cases are among the most complex and demanding types of lawsuits. They are not the type of case a person should trust to any but the most proven, experienced trial lawyers.

- Surgical Errors

Surgical patients depend on the skill and care of every member of their surgery team to survive an operation alive and intact. It's hard to imagine a greater degree of vulnerability than lying unconscious with a body cavity open while completely reliant on others for such basic activities as breathing and circulation. At the Pittsburgh law firm of Richards & Richards, our medical malpractice attorneys help the victims of surgical negligence recover the damages they need to compensate for the losses they have suffered. In some cases, those damages will involve paralysis or other permanent spinal cord damage. In other situations, permanent loss of brain function will be the main basis of the damages calculation.
