THE FIRM: The grounds of Rui Pena, Arnaut & Associados (RPA) date back to 1964, when senior partner Rui Pena began his legal practitioner career. From its original eight partners, RPA has adopted since 2005 a strategic approach to growth focused in achieving the top notch of the market in all practice areas, positioning itself as “one stop shop” firm for its domestic and international clients. In this context Monica Carneiro Pacheco, a former Partner from Uría, joined RPA in January 2007 to consolidate and develop Energy & Natural Resources practice. In October 2007 RPA boosted its Corporate M&A, Capital Markets & Private Equity, Banking & Finance, Tax, Litigation & Arbitration and Restructuring & Insolvency practices with lateral hires of (former Linklaters’ prominent senior lawyers) Antonio Andrade de Matos, Antonio Payan Martins, Francisco Almeida and Patrick Dewerbe, who joined RPA as Partners.

INTERNATIONAL WORK: RPA has a vast experience in providing legal advice to international financial transactions, cross-border banking operations and complex M&A and real estate deals. The IP practice has a strong international reputation in the protection of IP rights. RPA's Tax practice is very experienced in M&A and private equity transactions, tax based structures and international tax planning. RPA has also a strong presence in domestic and international cross border arbitration and litigation procedures. RPA has a wide network of well established relationships in several countries both in Europe, the United States and Portuguese speaking countries (Angola and Brazil).

CLIENTS: RPA's client portfolio includes a large number of international clients and some of the biggest Portuguese corporate groups with international presence.
