Law Firm Overview

Sammons & Carpenter, P.C. is a team of Georgia personal injury lawyers dedicated to representing those who have been seriously injured or killed due to the negligence of others. The attorneys at our firm are dedicated to providing their clients with the type of personalized, one on one legal representation that many law firms no longer provide. Our firm works hard to develop personal relationships with each client, and we are committed to keeping our client list small so that these personal relationships are possible.
Prior to founding Sammons & Carpenter, P.C., both R. David Sammons and R. Shannon Carpenter worked at large Defense firms where they honed their craft defending some of the largest Insurance and Fortune 100 Companies in the world. They have defended hundreds of cases ranging from car accidents and trucking accidents, to medical malpractice and wrongful death cases. They handled these cases not only in the Metro Atlanta area, but also across the entire State of Georgia as well as the entire country.
At Sammons & Carpenter, P.C., we firmly believe that in order to recover the maximum amount that each client deserves, our Attorneys themselves have to develop a personal relationship with each client in order to completely understand exactly how their injury has affected them and their family. This is true whether it a car accident, trucking accident, medical malpractice or wrongful death case. Therefore, we have made the conscious decision to limit the number of cases that we accept in order to provide each of our clients with the true Attorney Client relationship that they deserve.

Practice Areas
Practice Areas Description
Our areas of expertise include:- Car Accidents
If you've been in a car accident, it is critically important to make sure that you understand your legal rights. Georgia law on car accidents is complex; and the statute of limitations for filing a claim can be short. You need to recognize that, the longer you wait, the more likely it is that important rights may be forfeited, and critical evidence may be forgotten by witnesses, or damaged or destroyed as time elapses. Further, it is often prudent to retain an attorney before you talk to an insurance representative and/or other officials, to make sure that they are not using your own statements as evidence that will ultimately be used against your interests.
- Truck Accidents
A party injured in a truck accident that is caused by the fault of a truck operator may be entitled to recover damages related to medical costs, loss of income, pain and suffering, and, if warranted, punitive damages as well, to make sure that truck operators meet their safety obligations to all those who drive on Georgia roads and highways. With Sammons & Carpenter, you will have an Atlanta truck accident attorney who understands the special regulations and rules that apply in truck accident cases. In fact, the truck accident lawyers at our firm spent years defending trucking companies and their drivers before deciding to represent those injured in truck accidents, and we know the ins and outs of how trucking companies operate, both as a business and when it comes to truck accident lawsuits.
- Motorcycle Accidents
With so many motorcycles on the road, motorcycle accidents are a fact of life in Georgia. Naturally, since motorcycle riders and passengers are not as well protected as other vehicle drivers and passengers, motorcycle accidents are unfortunately more likely to result in serious injuries. An individual injured in a motorcycle accident may have a claim against another person if they can show that the other person is at fault for causing the injury. In Georgia, all drivers of motor vehicles owe a duty of care to other drivers on the road. When drivers breach that duty and cause an injury to another, they may be held civilly liable to the injured party in a negligence claim.
- Dog Bites/Animal Attacks
In Georgia, the law allows dog bite victims to hold owners liable for unprovoked dog attacks. Georgia law also gives dog owners the legal duty to keep their dogs from running free, and the duty to keep a vicious or unruly dog restrained on their own property. Under any of these circumstances, victims and their families may sue the dog owner (and, often, his or her insurance company) for hospital bills, past and future medical expenses, pain and suffering, wrongful death and other damages. We have represented dog bite and other personal injury throughout the State of Georgia and remain committed to providing personal service while achieving the best possible results for our clients.
- Medical Malpractice
The common types of medical malpractice our firm handles include: failure to diagnose; misdiagnosis; surgery errors; anesthesia errors; birth injuries; prescription errors; medication errors; and informed consent. If you believe you may have a valid claim for medical malpractice, the Law Firm of Sammons & Carpenter can help you. Our attorneys are experienced in pursing medical malpractice claims in the state of Georgia. Our attorneys can help you evaluate your case; protect your legal right to the courts; stand by your side throughout the legal process; and get you the best possible results.
- Slip-and-Fall/Premises Liability
Georgia law on slip-and-falls/premises liability is politically contentious and complex, changing according to where an accident took place and other circumstances. If you or someone you care about was injured in a slip-and-fall accident, you should speak to an experienced Georgia slip-and-fall/premises liability attorney from Sammons & Carpenter, P.C., as soon as possible. We understand personal injury law, and we understand that our clients are often going through a tough time when they come to us. That's why we always offer free, no-obligation case evaluations and never take a dime until after we've won your case.
- Negligent Security / Premises Liability
Negligent security liability tends to be one of the more volatile areas of tort law nationwide, and Georgia is no exception. If you or a loved one is the victim of a crime that occurs on another person’s property, and that criminal act results in physical injury or death, you may be able to recover damages in Georgia under the theory of negligent security premises liability. While this area of the law is constantly changing, our experienced negligent security liability lawyers can help you to evaluate the likelihood of obtaining recovery based on the most current Georgia statutes and cases.
- Wrongful Death
If you have recently lost a husband, child, or parent, we know it is difficult to face these mundane and practical realities in the midst of your grief and suffering. However, it is important to bear in mind that your own or your children’s future well-being may vitally depend upon obtaining damages to which you may be entitled in a wrongful death lawsuit. Through the filing of a wrongful death suit, we can help you to address these additional worries about the future that your loss has created. The Atlanta wrongful death attorneys at Sammons & Carpenter can help you understand the various provisions of Georgia law related to wrongful death claims, and help you to calculate what you may be legally entitled to.
- Product Liability/Defective Products
Whenever you purchase or use a product manufactured or produced by someone else—whether it is an appliance, food, a power tool, a toy for your child, an automobile, or anything else—you naturally expect that it is safe to use that product for the purpose for which it is intended. Sometimes, however, a product will not be safe for its intended or foreseeable use and, when someone sustains an injury as a result; the manufacturer of that product may be held civilly liable for the damages caused by the use of the product. When this happens, the lawsuit is called a products liability or product defect case.
- Workers’ Compensation
If you are injured in the course of performing your job, workers’ compensation benefits provide medical, rehabilitation, and/or income benefits, to assist you in being able to recover and, if possible, return to work. Under Georgia law, all employers with three or more workers must carry workers’ compensation insurance, and the coverage begins from the very first moment you are employed. Although the purpose of workers’ compensation is to help employees receive compensation for injuries quickly and efficiently, when the system does not function as it should, you may require the assistance of an experienced Atlanta workers’ compensation attorney to protect your rights.
