Skrine was founded on May 1, 1963, and is today one of the oldest and largest law firms in Malaysia with a depth of experience in a range of legal matters acquired through its 46 years of practice. Skrine is a full-service firm delivering legal solutions to a large cross-section of the business community, both locally and internationally. The firm is currently led by 36 partners and assisted by more than 50 lawyers. Our clients comprise both national and multinational companies ranging from a broad spectrum of industries. The firm was named as “The International Who’s Who Malaysian Firm” for the years 2008 and 2009 by the Who’s Who Legal Awards and Managing Intellectual Property’s “Malaysian IP Firm of the Year 2009.”

In terms of practice areas, the firm is divided into three principal divisions: Corporate, Dispute Resolution and Intellectual Property. The synergy of all three divisions is the basis for the firm’s approach to offering effective solutions for fast resolution of cases.

The firm’s Dispute Resolution division is renowned, with lawyers having vast experience in general litigation matters, as well as in specialized areas such as arbitration, banking, commercial law, construction and engineering, property and real estate, employment and industrial relations, insolvency/restructuring, insurance, mediation, shipping and tax. The firm is proud of the fact that we have several senior practitioners with more than 25 years of experience who regularly appear before the higher courts in the country. Our Corporate division is well known for its ability to handle complex transactions and offers a wide range of corporate and commercial services encompassing the areas of asset-based financing and securitization, banking and finance, capital markets, energy, natural resources and utilities, environmental, health and safety, international trade, Islamic finance, oil and gas, mergers & acquisitions, project financing, venture capital and private equity, real estate, securities, tax and trusts.

Skrine has a prominent IP division and our services encompass all aspects of intellectual property laws and practice from the inception/creation of the intellectual property right to the proper management, maintenance and enforcement of that right. Our scope of work covers character merchandising, copyright protection, franchising, licensing, patent and industrial design registration, technology and telecommunications, trade secrets and confidential information and trademarks. In addition, the IP division has an IT sub-practice group to meet the needs of clients in the fast growing Information, Communications and Technology industry and a litigation sub-practice group which advises on all aspects of IP protection and enforcement, including applications for Trade Description Orders, infringement of trademarks, copyright, patents and design, licensing and franchising disputes, injunctions and Anton Piller Orders, criminal enforcement of trademarks and copyright and passing off actions.
