The partnership of Smit Jones & Pratt originated in 1984. The partnership was formed by young, competent and aggressive attorneys who were of the view that a young and dynamic firm could render a better service than their competitors at a reasonable cost with a concomitant commitment to the pursuit and attainment of service excellence.

Our commitment to transformation and the need to redress the inequities of the past has been translated into practice. The firm has developed a transformation plan aimed at making the firm a truly South African law firm. We have, inter alia, appointed a prominent black lawyer as a partner in the firm, Sibusiso Gamede, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Black Lawyers' Association - Legal Education Centre and the first black lawyer to be awarded the Friedlander Prize by the Law Society of South Africa for outstanding achievement in the conveyancing examination.
