Practice Areas
Practice Areas Description
- DivorceDivorce, amicable or not, is a difficult process for anyone to go through. I consider it my job to help you get through this distressing time in your life with as little damage as possible. When you turn to me, I will work hard to see that your needs are met.
- Contested Divorce
The end of a marriage can be a distressing time. Sometimes, a marriage ends because one spouse has committed a serious wrong against the other. Trust has been violated. The bond has been irreparably broken. Sometimes, the conflict is so serious that an amicable divorce is simply not possible.
- Complex Divorce
If you own a small business or have a great deal of assets and you are going through a divorce, one of your main concerns is the protection of your property. This is a reasonable concern. My goal is to get you through a divorce in a manner that allows you to retain as much of your property as possible.
- Divorce Mediation
The popular perception is that every divorce is a long, bitter and costly battle. That does not have to be the case. In Fort Lauderdale and throughout Broward County, mediation is typically a required step in the divorce process. Even those who may be reluctant to try such measures often find themselves pleased that they did. Divorce mediation can be a valuable opportunity for a wide range of reasons.
- Property Division
During marriage, couples tend to develop their own systems of managing property, finances and duties. Some households divide work more or less equally in terms of who takes care of the children, who does the housework, who earns the money, whose name is on the titles to property or real estate and other issues. In others, these issues are divided in a far less balanced way. In Fort Lauderdale and throughout Broward County, equitable distribution is the legal method of making things even during the divorce process.
- Business Division
A business is not something that can be lumped in with other assets during the property division phase of a divorce. It is a unique, and often very valuable, type of property that needs to be treated appropriately. As your lawyer, I will take great care to see that your business is treated the way that you want it to be as you make your way through the divorce process.
- Inheritances
During a divorce, inheritances are treated much differently than other property. While other property is typically subject to the rules of equitable distribution, inherited money, real estate and other property are not. In theory, the law allows you to protect your inheritance from the divorce process.
- Child Custody
When two people are engaged in the process of ending their marriage, protecting the best interests of the children is almost always the most important issue for each of them. Unfortunately, because this is such an emotional issue, it is not always easy for the divorcing spouses to find common ground as to what exactly those best interests are.
- Child Visitation
As you make your way through a divorce, you may find that having sole custody or even joint custody of your child is simply not an option. Of course, you still want to maintain a relationship with your child. You have options that will allow you to do so.
- Parenting Coordinator
Child custody and visitation are often the main sources of conflict during a divorce. Of course, these conflicts can be resolved by taking the matter to court, but that puts the matter in the hands of the judge. Will the judge provide a resolution that makes sense to either side? Maybe. Maybe not.
- Child Support
After the child custody portion of a divorce has been resolved, the next step is determining child support. At a certain income level, the standard child support formula stops working. While there are rules related to what is called good fortune child support, these situations allow me more of an opportunity to creatively pursue your needs. As your attorney, you can be certain that I will work hard to pursue a fair outcome.
- Alimony
In Florida, alimony is decided on a case-by-case basis and either spouse may be awarded spousal support as part of the divorce settlement. Specific factors that the courts consider. For more than two decades, my practice as an attorney has focused exclusively on family law concerns such as alimony. I represent husbands and wives in the Fort Lauderdale and Broward County areas of South Florida and put my experience, skills, and efforts towards making sure they receive the fairest spousal support terms possible in their case.
- Modification
Just because a divorce decree has been finalized does not mean that child support, child custody, child visitation and alimony are now set in stone. The law understands that things change. That is why it allows the opportunity for modifications of any of these facets of your completed divorce.
- Parental Relocation
Life after divorce is full of just as much, if not more change than before. Because of this, revisiting the terms of a divorce long after the divorce itself is not uncommon. In terms of child custody, parental relocation, and Florida law however, there are specific factors that the courts will consider in determining whether or not the custodial parent can relocate the child.
- Paternity
When a child is born outside of a marriage, the rights and responsibilities of a father are not always automatically recognized by law. In many cases, paternity needs to be established as the first step on the road to obtaining the responsibility of child support, as well as child custody or child visitation rights.
- Prenuptial Agreement
Although it might seem awkward now, entering into wedded bliss with a prenuptial agreement in hand is a good way to avoid a great deal of trouble later on if the marriage does not work out as planned. However, if a marital agreement such as a prenup (antenuptial) or post-nuptial agreement is too hastily considered, poorly drafted or based on less than a full and forthright financial disclosure, your time and efforts will have been wasted.
- Domestic Violence
Domestic violence is a serious and often deadly problem for many people in the United States each year. It is also broadly defined and may include violence, threats, or other forms of abuse and can occur both inside, and outside of your residence. If you are currently being threatened or abused by someone you know—it is vitally important that you contact the police and/or an attorney as soon as possible for your own protection.
- Family Law
Going to court is always something of a risk. There are no guarantees. If you feel that the court's decisions in your family law or divorce case were wrong and would like to appeal them, I am here to help. As your attorney, I will work closely with you to determine if a family law appeal is an option for you. I will carefully examine the decisions made by the court regarding property division, child support, child custody, visitation, alimony and any other matter that you feel involved a mistake. I will explain your options and guide you toward the one that is right for you.
