At the Law Offices of Gismondi & Associates, we know that choosing the right lawyer is the most important decision you will make. The right choice can mean the difference between winning or losing your case, between getting full compensation for your injury or a relatively small amount. You need a lawyer who can create a healthy sense of fear in the people who caused your injury. It is essential to have a lawyer who is strong and well respected.
No lawyer can turn back the hands of time and undo a family tragedy. However, a good outcome in your legal case can improve your quality of life and provide financial security for your family. By bringing a powerful lawsuit, we can help to make sure that some other family doesn't have to experience the heartache or suffering which you have. I’m attorney John Gismondi, and for more than 25 years, my colleagues and I at Gismondi & Associates have been the right lawyers for countless people in Pittsburgh and throughout Pennsylvania who have been injured as a result of medical malpractice, wrongful death, dangerous products, motor vehicle accidents, airplane accidents, work site injuries and other circumstances.
Practice Areas
Practice Areas Description
- Birth InjuryBirth injuries represent some of the most tragic cases that exist. In a very short period of time, the great of joy expecting a new addition to the family can be shattered when the parents learn that their newborn child has suffered serious injury.
- Medication Errors
Medication errors simply should not occur. They usually happen because a nurse or a physician was not paying attention and a patient ends up with either the wrong drug or the incorrect dose of the right drug. Either way, medication errors can lead to serious injury or death.
- Failure to Diagnose
Cancer, a disease in which abnormal cells grow and destroy adjacent tissues, is responsible for 25% of all deaths in the United States. Hardly anyone has a friend or family member who has not been affected by this most dreaded of diseases. Whether it is cancer of the breast, lung, colon, cervix or skin, the three keys to successfully treating cancer are early detection, Early Detection and EARLY DETECTION! Unfortunately, doctors often miss the telltale signs of cancer and the disease is not found until it is too late to save the patient.
- Informed Consent
Every patient has a right to know what can go wrong if they undergo surgery. It is the surgeon's job to make sure that they have a full and complete conversation with the patient before they give their consent to have the operation. In other words, patients are not guinea pigs. They have a right to know what possible harm they could suffer if they agree to have surgery. Bleeding, lacerations, strokes, injury to nerves or internal organs ... these are things that can happen during surgery, and patients have a right to know.
- Back Injuries
One of the most common parts of the body to suffer injury are the disks and vertebrae in our neck and back. Whether it involves the cervical (neck), thoracic (mid-back) or lumbar (low back) area, injuries to the disks or vertebrae can cause severe pain and sometimes can even cause damage to the spinal cord. Surgeries done to treat these conditions include laminectomies, diskectomies, fusions and the like. These surgeries often also involve the placement of pedicle screws, cages and other "hardware" that is used to stabilize the fractures.
- Car Accident
Some would call the automobile the greatest invention of the 19 th century. It connected rural areas to larger cities ... it allowed people to own homes in the suburbs yet drive to work in the city ... it brought family and relatives from distant towns closer together. By doing so, it improved the quality of life for all Americans. Yes, the automobile did all of that, but it also injected a new hazard into every day living. Indeed, over the past 100 years, more people are injured in automobile collisions then any other type of accident.
- Truck Accident
Tractor trailers, cement mixers, coal trucks ... they are the big rigs on the highway. They do the important job of carrying household or industrial goods from coast to coast or from job site to job site. They also carry something else with them ... tremendous size and weight, and for folks driving an ordinary automobile, the overwhelming size and weight of trucks can present tremendous hazards on the road.
- Wrongful Death
A wrongful death lawsuit recognizes that it is not only the victim of a fatal accident who suffers a loss. Immediate family members such as spouses, parents, children and grandparents are also affected when a loved one dies and they deserve to be compensated.
- Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycles are sleek, efficient, and beautiful machines, and the people who ride them are passionate about the pleasures of driving on the open road. The overwhelming majority of motorcyclists are safe and careful drivers, but we often find that there is a prejudice against bike owners. When an accident occurs, other drivers and insurance companies want to blame the bike owner. Our job in representing motorcycle owners is to make sure that the prejudice is wiped away and that they are treated fairly for the injuries that they suffered.
- Catastrophic Injuries
Catastrophic injuries are those that affect you not just for a few weeks or months, but for years into the future, and in some cases for the rest of your life. Examples of catastrophic injuries are brain injury, loss of limb, serious burns and paralysis.
- Brain Injury
The most vital organ in the body is the brain. It is the nerve center for everything we think and do in our lives. While it is protected by the bony skull that surrounds it, the brain unfortunately is not immune from injury due to external trauma from motor vehicle accidents, work injuries and other things that cause blunt force to the head can cause a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
- Spinal Cord Injury
Along with the brain, perhaps the most critical structure in our body is the spinal cord. It contains all of the delicate nerve fibers that control vital functions such as movement, breathing, bowel and bladder function, etc. Therefore, any injury to the spinal cord is potentially catastrophic.
- Burn Injury
Burns are among the most painful injuries that can happen to a person. They involve damage to more than just the skin; the muscle, bone and blood vessels can also be injured. Additionally, burn victims are at high risk for developing other serious complications including shock and infection.
- Defective Products
Automobiles, airplanes, consumer products, and industrial equipment are all modern conveniences that improve the quality of our work and leisure time. However, those machines can often cause devastating injuries or death if they are not properly designed or provided with the necessary warnings and instructions.
- Work Site Injury
Workplace safety is supposed to be a priority for all employers, but that is not always the case. People working in the construction trades and manufacturing are often seriously injured by unsafe equipment and dangerous working conditions.
We have handled a variety of cases involving death and serious injury in the work place. For example, accidents involving building construction, road and bridge repairs, building renovations, cranes, hoists, forklifts, scaffold injuries, loading docks, collapse of walls, etc.
