- Criminal Defense

At the law offices of Thomas W. Jakway, I have been dedicated to the practice of criminal defense for my entire 18-year career. - DWI / DUI

I am Thomas W. Jakway, a Woodbury, Minnesota, lawyer fully prepared to handle your drunk driving charges, including misdemeanor DUI, felony DUI, criminal vehicular operation and vehicular homicide. The most important thing to understand is that being arrested, or being ticketed are very different from actually being proven guilty. That may mean fighting the charges in court, working with the prosecutor to plea bargain a lesser charge, or working to get the charges dismissed altogether.

- Misdemeanor Assault Charges

Most people who are arrested or investigated regarding a possible assault want nothing more than to tell their side of the story. But telling that story without having their attorney present is the worst mistake they can make because if the police and prosecutors are looking for something…they tend to find it even where it doesn't exist. At the law offices of Thomas W. Jakway, P.A., I represent individuals in courtrooms throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area and across Minnesota, defending their rights against both felony and misdemeanor assault charges. But for me to provide you with an effective criminal defense against these charges, you have to let me do my work first. When we are prepared, we'll tell your story.

- Felony DWI/DUI

This is the most serious driving under the influence charge. It is called DWUI in the First Degree and occurs when a person has either been previously convicted of felony DWI or has three or more qualified prior impaired driving convictions. The big difference in this offense is that the potential punishment includes possible time in prison. In addition to serious potential sanction of prison time, a person also may be subject to license revocation/cancellation, plate impoundment, and vehicle forfeiture. This is not the time to "go it alone" or hire an inexperienced attorney. You have too much to lose.

- Criminal Vehicular Operation/Homicide

Criminal vehicular operation/homicide (CVO, CVH) are the most serious alcohol related driving offenses, where an accident occurs and someone is injured or killed. The felony sanctions are much greater than those of felony DWI/DUI. Depending on the charges, the loss of driving privileges is in term of years rather than days. Likewise, a prison sentence may be presumed, meaning that you will face prison rather than probation, depending on the charge and your criminal and driving record. These are serious life changing offenses which may permanently affect your lifestyle and family. You need to be properly defended in these circumstances. Put my experience to work for you.

- Alcohol and Drug Charge
