Mesothelioma litigation is a type of lawsuit typically brought against manufacturers and suppliers of asbestos, a known hazardous substance used at one time in many products. Mesothelioma cases usually involve people facing terminal illness and great hardship. Even so, these cases can be difficult to prove. Often, a long period of time elapses between exposure to asbestos and the diagnosis of mesothelioma. Typically, several decades may pass before the symptoms of mesothelioma appear.
- Malignant Mesothelioma
Malignant mesothelioma is an extremely aggressive cancer in which malignant cancer cells are found in the sac that lines the chest, abdominal cavity, or heart. Asbestos exposure is the only known cause of this devastating illness. Asbestos is a fibrous mineral known for its insulating and fire-retardant properties. Asbestos was a staple in most insulating products, many industrial and construction products, and was used extensively on U.S. Navy ships.

Among the most serious of these illnesses are Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). These life-threatening skin diseases are most often associated with certain drugs. These drugs include certain antibiotics, seizure medicines, and common nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen.

The U.S. False Claims Act allows private citizens to file suits on the government's behalf when the government has been defrauded through any federally funded contract or program. The qui tam provisions of the False Claims Act allow these citizens to recover damages. If you are 65 years or older and have purchased an annuity from a bank or after attending a living trust or estate and financial planning seminar, you may be eligible to join in a class action suit. Lawsuits have been brought that allege that certain insurance companies and bank target elders and use scare tactics to pressure seniors into investing their life savings in deferred annuities, which can make the seniors' savings inaccessible for 10-20 years (even in the case of emergencies), can carry exorbitant surrender charges and severe tax penalties, and can create complicated estate problems after death.
