We provide all legal and tax services to our clients. Below is a short-list of some practice areas where our clients constantly find our services more competitive and valuable.

- Oil & Gas and Infrastructure Projects

Our lawyers gained substantial experience for multi-national oil companies and on major infrastructure projects. The Firm has provided outsourced legal consultancy to all of BP’s projects in Azerbaijan on drafting, negotiating and managing contracts. Specifically, we consulted foreign oil companies in preparing the first mutual hold-harmless agreement in the Caspian Sea region, the rig sharing agreements, contracts for mobile rigs, offshore well services contracts, complex engineering contracts and so forth. The Firm’s lawyers have first-hand experience in preparing necessary legal framework for interest transfers, joint venture management within oil and gas projects and other similar areas.

- Corporate Law and M&A

The following is a representative list of the work that our lawyers have undertaken in this area: Advised the largest cement producing plant on obtaining a mining license for sub-soil activity and on environmental permits and licenses; Advised International Finance Corporation (IFC) on development of corporate governance standards. Currently, Ekvita is acting as IFC’s partner in connection with implementation of corporate governance standards in Azerbaijan; Advised a Korean construction company on major land acquisition, mortgage and construction development project; Acted as a local counsel for an EU research centre (Austria) on development of comprehensive legal report on Azerbaijan; and Acting as a local counsel on some corporate governance matters for BP Azerbaijan.

- Banking & Finance

Our firm provides all necessary legal support on banking and finance issues. Particularly, we specialize in development of banking products based on the principles of Islamic finance. For that purpose, Ekvita established an alliance with IFAAS - recognized international consultancy specializing in Islamic finance with offices based in London, Paris and Bahrain.

- Tax Planning and Consulting

Ekvita brings together more than 10 years of market knowledge and experience in both legal and tax consulting. The following is a representative list of the work that our lawyers have undertaken in this area: Acted as outsourced tax consultant for major Korean company since 2008. Successfully, represented the client during the tax audits; and Acting as an outsourced tax consultant for Italian Chamber of Commerce since 2009.

- Employment & Migration Law

Our firm provides legal support to our Clients in all aspects of employment and migration law. Our lawyers provided structured trainings to the local market on controversial issues of Azerbaijan’s labor law, staff outsourcing, migration law and so forth. We are one of the first law firms conducting HR audits in Clients’ organization aimed at streamlining daily HR operations and assisting in handling potential penalties and claims.

- Contracts

Our lawyers have been trained in FIDIC and LOGIC model form contracts and have unique knowledge and skills in Azerbaijan’s legal market. The Firm has provided outsourced legal consultancy to all of BP’s projects in Azerbaijan on drafting, negotiating and managing contracts. Specifically, we consulted foreign oil companies in preparing the first mutual hold-harmless agreement in the Caspian Sea region. In addition to oil and gas contracts, we also represented foreign investors in Government’s multi-million dollar infrastructure development, construction and telecommunications projects involving significant amount of contract negotiation in both public and private sectors.
