Areas of Law
Areas of Law Description
Our areas of practice include:
- Car Accidents
Our attorneys devote their practice to helping victims of auto accidents and car crashes in Michigan. If you or a family member has been injured in a car accident that causes personal injury or wrongful death, the clock is ticking. Michigan has very strict time limitations for auto accident victims. For example, people injured in car accidents have only one year to file an application for insurance benefits with their own insurance company. Consider contacting an experienced lawyer for help. You can call our firm at no cost or obligation for advice on how to avoid giving up important legal rights or settling for less than you’re entitled. Our lawyers have recovered the highest reported car accident verdict in Michigan for 2012, according to the Michigan Lawyers Weekly year-end list of the top reported verdicts and settlements.
- Truck Accidents
Working with an experienced lawyer is imperative since truck accidents often involve unique regulations governing the safe operation and maintenance of commercial trucks. There are strict time periods where trucking companies are required to keep information on driver logs, personnel files, maintenance and truck inspection, after which these records can be destroyed. An inexperienced attorney who fails to obtain this information will lose invaluable evidence.
- Motorcycle Accidents
Motorcycle accidents in Michigan can present unique challenges for victims and attorneys: Under Michigan’s No- Fault Law, a motorcycle is not considered a motor vehicle. Nevertheless, there are important exceptions under Michigan insurance laws that still allow a person injured in a motorcycle crash to recover no-fault insurance benefits. In fact, a motorcycle accident victim can often receive insurance coverage from the driver and/or owner of the automobile that caused the accident. A mini tort claim can protect and compensate someone who has suffered personal injury after a motorcycle accident, even when the bike involved wasn’t covered by insurance.
- Catastrophic Injury
The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association (MCCA) was created by the Michigan Legislature and provides unlimited lifetime coverage for medical expenses for catastrophic injuries resulting from auto accidents. According to the association, catastrophic claims involve injury to the brain, and/or spinal cord, which results in serious and permanent disability, such as paralysis, coma or traumatic brain injury.
- Traumatic Brain Injury
Many serious car and truck accidents involve brain injury. Whether they’re classified by doctors as traumatic brain injury, post concussion syndrome or closed-head injury, all refer to impairments that will occur after the brain has been injured. It’s important to remember that while the medical classifications for these personal injuries are artificially divided between mild, moderate and severe, the effects of any injury to the brain can be devastating. A brain injury that has been classified as mild can often still result in permanent and disabling impairment for an individual. In addition, traumatic brain injury is usually accompanied by emotional and psychiatric symptoms. In addition to holding leadership positions in several organizations that focus on brain and spinal cord injuries, such as the American Association for Justice Traumatic Brain Injury Group, the State Bar of Michigan Negligence Law Section and the Sarah Jane Brain Project, our personal injury attorneys have received esteem and results in the courtroom that no other law firm in Michigan can match.
