Law Firm Overview

Kalish Law Office was established in The Woodlands, Texas in 1984 by founding partner, Bob Kalish. In 1991, Laura Kalish joined the practice. Siomara Ramirez Pitre joined the practice in 2008. We provide legal services in the areas of family law, wills/probate, real estate, and business/contracts.

Now in its 28th year of existence, the firm has successfully met its initial goal: providing quality legal services to families and businesses in a changing world. Our initial ‘family law practice’ has grown to include foreign and international adoption, family trusts and estate planning and legal services for small and family-owned businesses. Our business practice has expanded to include a variety of services for small and large businesses.

We also have extensive experience in international adoption and KLO was one of the first Texas law firms to be actively involved in international adoption cases. We have worked hard to develop areas of practice that are complimentary to each other to enable us to handle simple to complex cases. This means that you can count on us whether you are looking to have a will drawn up, get a legal opinion on a contract, or need help with your divorce or family law issues.

Areas of Law

Areas of Law Description

The Kalish Law Office provides experienced, knowledgeable legal representation in the following practice areas:

- Family Law

Our divorce and family law attorneys have experience in negotiation, settlement and collaborative divorce. Our family law attorneys in The Woodlands handle child support, custody and modification cases. If your prior court orders for visitation, custody, or child support are no longer serving the needs of your family, we can help you file for a modification of those orders. If you need to increase or decrease a child support amount or need an order to stop child support because your child has turned 18, we will be happy to meet with you.

* Divorce

The Kalish Law attorneys have the experience, ability, and desire to respond to you and your case as an individual situation. Although all divorce cases have some common elements, each case is different. In some cases, it may be better to settle out of court, while other cases must be taken to trial. The Kalish Law attorneys will work with you to help you determine which strategy is best for you. At Kalish Law Office in The Woodlands, our divorce attorneys can help you decide whether you need temporary orders in your divorce, and guide you in your decisions about payment of bills, reasonable child support and visitation.

* Complex Marital Assets and Divorce

If a couple has a large, high-dollar marital estate, it is important to have a proper valuation and division of the property. This becomes even more crucial in today’s economy. Proper division of debt is just as important as division of assets. The Kalish Law Office has the experience to assist clients in dividing complex marital assets. We will work with you and other financial professionals, when warranted, to be certain that you have all of the information that you need to preserve your assets and plan for your future.

* Adoption: Domestic and International

Our firm has been very involved in domestic and international adoption for over 20 years. We are familiar with the Hague convention, as well as non-Hague cases. We will also help our international adoption clients readopt, reaffirm or register the adoption in a Texas state court and get a Texas birth certificate. We are able to assist our international adoption clients with immigration paperwork and obtaining U.S. citizenship for an adopted child. We represent clients in step-parent adoption and adult adoption.

* Child Custody and Visitation

A parent or legal guardian of a child may find that a prior order or arrangement is no longer working for the family. When that happens, it is time to seek legal advice from a family law attorney who has experience with child custody and visitation matters. The family law attorneys at the Kalish Law Office in The Woodlands Texas are skilled at evaluating changing circumstances and helping you to determine whether or not it is time to formally seek a modification and court order. A modification can be sought when there is a significant change in the circumstances of the child or one of the parents or legal guardians of the child.

* Child Support

We handle child support, custody and modification cases. If your prior court orders for visitation, custody, or child support are no longer serving the needs of your family, we can help you file for a modification of those orders. If you need to increase or decrease a child support amount or need an order to stop child support because your child has turned 18, we will be happy to meet with you. The child support attorneys at the Kalish Law Office in The Woodlands Texas have been assisting clients with child support issues for over 28 years.

* Premarital Agreements

Premarital agreements are also called Prenuptial Agreements or “Prenups”. Most couples who decide on a premarital agreement do so because one of the parties has significantly more assets and debts than the other; because one or both parties want to preserve assets for pre-existing children; or for reasons of independence and autonomy. Premarital agreements are quite commonly used in stepfamily situations. Because our attorneys at Kalish Law Office have experience in both family law and estate planning, we can help you evaluate all of your options and make an informed decision.

* Paternity

If you are trying to legally establish your child’s paternity, we can assist you. We will explain how DNA testing, birth certificate information, and admissions of paternity affect the outcome of your case. We will review your situation, including whether or not child support or medical support has been paid, and whether there has been visitation with your child, and help you to determine the best way to handle paternity, visitation and support issues. If you have been sued for paternity, we will explain the process to you, and help you to respond to the situation.

- Special Education Law

Prior to becoming an attorney, founding partner Bob Kalish was a practicing psychologist who worked with children and adults with disabilities. He brings that experience and perspective to his practice. If you or a family member requires assistance in the area of school and special education law, we will be happy to schedule a consultation with attorney Bob Kalish. He is available to meet with you and review your child’s educational records and help you formulate a plan in accordance with Texas Special Education Law, prepare for ARD (Admission, review and dismissal) meetings, IEP (Individualized education program) and understand TEA (Texas Education Agency) procedures.

- Business Law

The skilled business law attorneys at Kalish Law Office can also assist you with the start-up of your new business. We will meet with you to discuss your goals and help you to formulate a business plan. We will guide you through the choice of business entity and help you draft documents and register your new or ongoing business with the proper state and governmental authorities. The attorneys at Kalish Law Office are skilled in legal proceedings and can represent you in the courtroom in civil business litigation cases in Montgomery County and surrounding areas.

- Real Estate Law

Real estate attorney Bob Kalish has over 28 years’ worth of experience in Texas real estate law and litigation and can assist with issues pertaining to property ownership disputes and boundary disputes. Our firm can prepare and record deeds for property transfer. If you are a real estate investor or business owner, having an attorney that knows you and your situation can be a great help. You may decide to periodically schedule an appointment to review your overall real estate plan or get advice on how to negotiate or conduct specific transactions.

- Estate Planning and Probate Law

Our attorneys at Kalish Law Office have the knowledge and experience to help you understand your estate planning options, from drafting a simple will to reviewing a variety of estate planning options for complicated or high asset estates. The probate attorneys at Kalish Law Office are available to assist you with the Texas probate Process, probate court, settlement of estates, help for surviving spouses and family members, guidance for executors and will contests.
