Lost Wages - Legal Lines with Locke Meredith

It's time now for Legal Lines tips with your host Locke Meredith. Hello I'm Locke Meredith and I have a Legal Lines tip for you. Remember knowledge is power and I want you to know if you're injured and you have lost wages because of that injury, Louisiana law gives you a claim for that loss. Typically it's going to require medical evidence from a medical Dr. stating because of your injury you can't work. Pretty simple claim if you had a job before the injury and the Dr. says you can't work from the date of the accident, and three months later he says you can work you can figure out what you have lost in wages. Circumstances occur however when the injury results in permanent, physical, and functional limitations. Now you can't do the job, according to the Dr., that you could do before the accident. So the question becomes is there any work you can do, and what is the difference in wages. But the court doesn't just look at what you've earned in the past it also looks at your earning capacity. That is your ability to earn wages in the future; Promotions, additional education. So my Legal Lines Tip from me, Locke Meredith to you is make sure you know your rights when you are presenting that lost wage claim. Medical Expenses - Legal Lines with Locke Meredith

Hello, I'm Locke Meredith with a Legal Lines tip for you. Buy medical payments insurance coverage. Why, you ask? Because medical pay coverage pays medical expenses up to the amount that you purchased, say $5,000 for your medical expenses incurred when you're involved in an automobile collision, whether it's your fault or the other party's fault. And it will pay the medical expenses for everyone that's in your vehicle.

As we all know, health insurance companies do not always pay the medical expenses in full. They have a deductible. And oftentimes, they wait a long time before they pay it. Also, the other party who may be at fault for the collision, their insurance company may refuse to pay until they can wrap up the entire claim. So it is my advice to you that you purchase medical pay insurance coverage. The Legal Lines tip from me, Locke Meredith, to you is buy med pay.

Property Damage - Legal Lines with Locke Meredith

It's time now for Legal Lines tips with your host Locke Meredith. Hello I'm Locke Meredith and I have a Legal Lines tip for you. Remember knowledge is power and I want you to know that if have a property damage claim, either from a car wreck or some other circumstances, Louisiana law gives you a lot of rights. Particularly it mandates the insurance company pay you your property damage claim within 30 days after you give them sufficient proof of loss. Typically the injuries or the property damage issues are, whether or not the vehicle can be repaired, or whether or not it's "totaled", that is the cost of repairing it is more expensive than just paying you for what the value of the vehicle is. Unfortunately, what the insurance company often wants to pay won't even pay off the debt. Another issue we have encountered is if they decide to repair the vehicle, it has now depreciated in value because it's been in a wreck. Another issue is loss of use. You're entitled to be paid for the time that you are without the use of your vehicle. So my Legal Lines Tip from me, Locke Meredith, to you is, be sure you know your property rights.
