Law Firm Overview
SAL & Caldeira Advogados is a leading, full-service Mozambican law firm headquartered in Maputo and with offices in Tete and Beira. They strive to combine local experience with international best practice to offer high quality legal services. The firm not only offers expert knowledge in its key practice areas but also works actively on legal reform in Mozambique.
The firm’s clients include most of the leading petroleum and mining companies in Mozambique as well as other foreign investors, international banks and many diplomatic missions and international NGOs.
As well as its company-specific work, the firm was instrumental in founding and representing the Mozambican international petroleum operators’ association, Associação Moçambicana de Operadores Petrolíferas Internacionais (AMOPI), and the Chamber of Mines of Mozambique (CMM). As such, its lawyers negotiate legislation and regulations on behalf of the extractive industries vis-à-vis the Government in a broad range of matters, from sector-specific regulations to labour rules and tax laws. The firm also frequently represents Mozambique’s Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA) in the negotiation of strategic, business-related legislation (for example, the Mega-Projects Law and the Labour Law).
Although particularly recognised for its activity in the field of natural resources, the firm’s expertise covers the full range of legal disciplines including banking, tax, corporate, commercial, administrative law, employment, immigration and litigation.
SAL & Caldeira Advogados is frequently instructed by international firms including DLA Piper, Norton Rose, Edward Nathan Sonnenberg, Webber Wentzel, White & Case, Herbert Smith Freehills and Sullivan & Cromwell.
The firm recently relocated to more modern and spacious offices at JN3412, where many of the companies in the petroleum industry of Mozambique are headquartered.
