Areas of Law
Areas of Law Description
The Criminal Defense Division of Smith Rayl Law Office, LLC, provides legal representation and services in the following areas of practice:
- Criminal Law
We have criminal law experience in every type of criminal matter, from speeding tickets and misdemeanor charges to major felony cases like assault, theft, weapons and drug charges, attempted murder and murder. We have many years of experience in representing clients in both criminal trials and in criminal appeals. We believe every criminal case should be prepared as if it is going to trial. A thorough investigation will turn up any weaknesses in the State’s case. Even if the case does not go to trial, sometimes the best negotiating tool with the prosecutor is a well-prepared defense attorney.
- Criminal Appeals
A criminal appeal is a complex process. It important to have an attorney who understands the Indiana appeals process. Ms. Rayl has many years of experience working with criminal appellate cases the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court, having completed over 80 appeals. She will work to make sure that you have the best possible representation throughout your appeal.
Under Indiana's Second Chance Law, certain arrests and convictions can be expunged from your record so that you can honestly answer "no" to questions on job applications about criminal history. However, the expungement process is complicated, and if it is done wrong you may find that you have lost the opportunity to clear your record. It is not something you should attempt without the help of an attorney.
