- DUI

Individuals aged 21 and over can be arrested for drunk driving if their blood alcohol content (BAC) is .08 or more, commercial vehicle drivers can be arrested for driving with a BAC of .04 or more, and individuals who are not of legal drinking age can be arrested for having a BAC of .01 or more. The consequences of such an arrest on your record are severe — a drunk driving conviction carries stiff penalties that can negatively impact everything from your ability to hold a job to decisions about college admissions.

- Multiple DUI

Multiple DUI convictions carry significantly heavier repercussions than an initial San Diego drunk driving conviction. In addition to the penalties we outline here, your motor vehicle insurance carrier is much more likely to deny you coverage, and employers may be prejudiced against you due to your criminal record. Enhanced penalties also apply if you injured anyone, endangered a minor, had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of more than .15, or otherwise drove recklessly, and felony DUI charges may be leveled against you under certain circumstances.

A license restriction occurs when an ignition interlock device (IID) is placed on your vehicle. IIDs are wired into your car's electrical system and require you to provide breath samples before your engine starts. If the device detects the presence of alcohol on your breath, your car will not start and you cannot drive it.

- License Suspension and Revocation

An Order of Suspension/Revocation is issued when you are arrested for drunk driving, at which time you are granted a 30-day temporary license.
