Areas of Law Description
The Harrison Firm, PC provides legal representation and services in the following areas of practice:
- Franchise Law
Franchise law governs a business relationship in which one business entity receives payment for granting to another person or entity the right to use its trade name or trademark and for providing services to the other person or entity. The franchise seller is the franchisor and the buyer is the franchisee.
- Trademark Law
Trademark law protects a word, name or symbol, the trademark that is used to identify the goods of a company so as to build brand identity and distinguish a company’s goods from the goods of competitors. A service mark is the same, except that it relates to services provided by a company instead of products sold by the company.
- Copyright Law
A copyright protects original works of authorship which have become “fixed” in a “tangible form of expression.” That includes novels, poetry, movies, songs, and computer software. Some building designs are also entitled to copyright protection. Ideas are not entitled to copyright protection.
- Trade Secret Law
A trade secret is defined under the uniform act as “information, including but not limited to, a formula, pattern, compilation, program, device, method, technique, or process, that derives independent economic value, actual or potential, from not being generally known to, and not being readily ascertainable by property means by other persons who can obtain economic value from its disclosure or use, and is the subject of efforts that are reasonable under the circumstances to maintain its secrecy.”
- Unfair Competition Law
Unfair competition law is a broad legal concept that is used both by laypersons and courts often without clear definition. It generally is thought to encompass two separate concepts. One concept is the wrong of confusing customers about the source of origin of goods or services.
- Business and Corporate Law
David Harrison has significant experience in a broad range of complex business and corporate law matters. He has served as in-house counsel for a publicly traded corporation, providing daily legal advice on a broad range of business and corporate law matters.
