Recognizing the need for those charged with sex offenses to have the very best representation, Tom developed the group concept that characterizes his practice today. Because he has a boutique criminal defense practice, he handles all of his cases himself, but always with a competent co-counsel. When those cases are in the State of Maryland, Charlotte Weinstein co-counsels with him.

Out-of-state cases are handled differently. Because Tom is admitted to the Maryland State Bar, when he practices in other jurisdictions, he must associate with a local lawyer who can admit him to the court pro hac vice. This is a legal term that permits an out-of-state attorney to represent a client in conjunction with an attorney licensed to practice in that state. Only highly seasoned, competent and experienced attorneys are selected to serve as local counsel with Tom. Each of these lawyers has a strong reputation and a proven track record in his or her home state.

When these attorneys are brought on board to serve as co-counsel, a team is formed for the client’s benefit. Special task forces have been established to crack down on those who use the internet to download and share child pornography. Often this is accomplished by establishing internet sting operations. Federal statues include stiff, mandatory minimum sentences and sex offender registration for those convicted of crimes involving child pornography.
