The Canadian Bar Association - Newfoundland & Labrador Branch provides a forum for discussion of current issues affecting the legal profession both locally and nationally while offering personal and professional development services to its members. The Branch also participates in the Continuing Legal Education seminars which are held in co-operation with the Law Society of Newfoundland to better educate lawyers in the Province and keep them updated on current developments in the law. Many members of the Branch participate on local and national committees dealing with law reform and promotion of the legal profession. The Branch also is very active in the community, especially with young people on Law Day.

The Law Society is the regulatory body for the legal profession in the province and is governed by the Benchers. The President acts as Chair of Benchers meetings, or Convocations, this word used because of Benchers authority to grant degrees in law.
