Bulgaria Bar Associations
- Blagoevgrad Bar Association, Blagoevgrad
The Blagoevgrad Bar Association assists citizens and judicial persons in the defence of their rights and legitimate interests. Attorneys are members of Bar Associations by law. The regions, number and the seats of the Bar Associations are determined by the Supreme Bar Council. To date there are 27 Bar Associations. Their number is equal to the number of the District Courts in the Republic of Bulgaria.
- Bulgarian Bar Association, Sofia
The Supreme Bar Council is the highest authority of self-governance and self-supervision of the Bulgarian Bar with a seat in the city of Sofia. It is composed of 15 main and 10 replacement members elected by the General Assembly of Attorneys in the Country for a mandate of 3 years. The General Assembly of Attorneys in the Country is composed of representatives of the Bar Associations at quota of representation 1 delegate for every 20 attorneys. The General Assembly of Attorneys in the Country elects among the main members the Chairperson of the Supreme Bar Council. The Supreme Bar Council elects among the main members two Vice Chairpersons and a Chief Secretary.

The Attorneys Act adopted by the Supreme National Assembly on 12 September 1991 and published in the State Gazette, Vol. 80 of 1991, abolished Decree No. 1842/1976. By that Act the attorneys’ profession was prescribed as a constitutional activity for legal support and protection of freedoms, rights and legal interests of the individuals and legal entities.
