The Supreme Bar Council is the highest authority of self-governance and self-supervision of the Bulgarian Bar with a seat in the city of Sofia. It is composed of 15 main and 10 replacement members elected by the General Assembly of Attorneys in the Country for a mandate of 3 years. The General Assembly of Attorneys in the Country is composed of representatives of the Bar Associations at quota of representation 1 delegate for every 20 attorneys. The General Assembly of Attorneys in the Country elects among the main members the Chairperson of the Supreme Bar Council. The Attorney’s Professional Autonomy In Bulgaria Was Proclaimed By The First Attorneys Act Dated 22 November 1888 That Created Prerequisites For Establishing Of A Bar Council. One Of The Oldest Bar Councils In Bulgaria – The Sofia Bar Council Was Founded At The Assembly Of The Sofia Bar Association On The Initiative Of The Chairman Of The Sofia District Court Mr. Georgi Pisarev On 11 October 1897.

The first historical documents in which attorneys-at-law (Croatian: odvjetnici; Latin: advocates, procuratores) are mentioned have a medieval origin - the first of them being The Vinodol Code (Vinodolski zakon) from 1288. In the coastal area - Dalmatia - the roots of the legal profession are even deeper and reach to the times of the Roman Empire.

Au cours des années qui ont précédé la guerre de 1939-1945, les juridictions marseillaises étaient extrêmement éparpillées. Les chambres civiles et correctionnelles occupaient ce que nous appelons maintenant « le Vieux Palais » ; le Tribunal de Commerce était logé à la Bourse, de telle sorte que, d'une part les avocats spécialisés en droit commercial avaient leur cabinet au début de la rue de la République et que, d'autre part les passants amusés ou stupéfaits voyaient les avocats descendre et remonter la rue Paradis, robe sous le bras, à toute allure (certains mêmes, très rares il est vrai, gardaient leurs robes sur leurs vêtements afin de grignoter quelques minutes dans le but de parvenir à plaider dans les deux endroits. Le Conseil de Prud'Hommes se trouvait rue Montgrand, le Tribunal Administratif à la Préfecture, le Tribunal de Police rue Breteuil.

The Code of Ethics of the Latvian sworn advocates is based on the Code of Ethics of International Lawyers approved in 1958 and later amended by the International Bar Association (IBA) and the Code of Behaviour of European lawyers approved in 1998, which rules are applicable to all lawyers, attorneys, barristers and solicitors practising in the same judicial system, as well as co-operation with the legal practitioners in other judicial systems or their practice in other judicial systems. This Code provides the basic principles of ethics which must be observed by all advocates practising within the Latvian and international legal system.
