Legal Education and Training Review - next steps for regulation, skills and competitiveness

 October 8, 2013

Location

Central London
TBA
London,
United Kingdom

Description

This seminar will provide a timely opportunity to consider the future of legal education and training in England and Wales, and is scheduled as legal regulators and policymakers are expected to respond to the Legal Education and Training Review's (LETR) final report - expected later this year.

Sessions will bring together key stakeholders working across the current legal education and training framework - including colleges, universities, careers advisory services, training providers and legal regulators - alongside law firms, chambers and other prominent legal employers to discuss how the LETR's findings might impact on the future of the sector, and challenges ahead for promoting an "independent, strong, diverse and effective" legal profession as dictated by the Legal Services Act 2007. Delegates will have the opportunity to consider how undergraduate legal study can adapt to a fast evolving legal services market; the future of the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC); latest thinking on the availability of training contracts; diversity and inclusivity in the legal workplace; and the LETR's wider implications for competitiveness, skills and access to the profession.

We are delighted that Simon Thornton-Wood, Head of Education & Training, Bar Standards Board (BSB); Ian Watson, Chief Executive, ILEX Professional Standards (IPS) and a speaker confirmed from the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) have agreed to deliver keynote addresses at this seminar.
