Michigan Statewide Offices
- Attorney General
The Attorney General is the top law enforcement official in Michigan. It is an elected office with a four-year term and there's a two term limit.
- Governor
The Governor of Michigan is the chief executive of the U.S. state of Michigan. The Governor creates and submits budgets to the legislature: signs or vetos bills as necessary: calls on the state's military in times of crisis: appoints officials to the state government: and assists in court cases.
- Lt. Governor
The lieutenant governor serves as President of the Michigan Senate, voting only in case of a tie. In addition, the lieutenant governor performs special duties as requested by the governor, serves as a member of the State Administrative Board and would succeed the governor in case of death, impeachment, removal from office, or resignation. The lieutenant governor serves as acting governor whenever the governor is out of the state.
- Secretary of State
The Department of State is responsible for licensing drivers, as well as registering and titling vehicles. The department also regulates auto dealerships and repair facilities, and licenses auto mechanics. Other important duties include administering election law and voter registration, commissioning notaries public as well as overseeing the Office of the Great Seal.
- State of Michigan
The State of Michigan is located in the Great Lakes Region of the United States of America. The name Michigan is a French adaptation of the Ojibwe word mishigama, meaning "large water" or "large lake. Michigan is the only state to consist entirely of two peninsulas.
Michigan Legislative Branch
- House of Representatives
The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies.
- Michigan Legislature
The Michigan Legislature is the legislative assembly of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is organized as a bicameral body consisting of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The state legislature enacts the laws of Michigan; levies taxes and appropriates funds from money collected for the support of public institutions and the administration of the affairs of state government; proposes amendments to the state constitution, which must be approved by a majority vote of the electors; and considers legislation proposed by initiatory petitions.
- Office of the Auditor General
The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) has the responsibility to conduct post financial and performance audits of State government operations. OAG audit reports provide a continuing flow of information to assist the Legislature in its oversight of individual State funds and the annual budget. The OAG's overall goal is to improve accounting and financial reporting practices and promote effectiveness, efficiency, and economy in State government.
- State Senate
The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. The Senate consists of 38 members who are elected by the qualified electors of districts. Senators are elected at the same time as the governor and serve 4-year terms concurrent with the governor's term of office.

- Michigan Courts
Courts of Michigan include: the Michigan Supreme Court; the Court of Appeals; District Courts; Circuit Courts; and Probate Courts.
- Michigan Supreme Court
The Michigan Supreme Court is the highest court in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is known as Michigan's "court of last resort" and consists of seven justices, who are elected to eight-year terms. The Court's other duties include overseeing the operations of all state trial courts; a public comment process for changes to court rules, rules of evidence, and other administrative matters. The court has broad superintending control power over all the state courts in Michigan.

Michigan Executive Branch
- Bureau of Energy Systems
The Bureau of Energy Systems aligns all government-related energy sector activities to make Michigan a national leader in renewable energy, advanced energy technologies and energy efficiency, including efforts to "Green Michigan," develop and deploy sustainable practices, and address climate change. Offers information, technical and financial assistance on energy efficiency and renewable energy to Michigan residents, businesses, and public institutions.
- Bureau of Workforce Transformation
The Bureau of Workforce Transformation helps equip individuals with the skills needed for the jobs of today and the future, and it helps maintain a well-trained labor pool. It administers several programs that are designed to provide persons with the assistance they need, such as; assisting workers find jobs and helps employers find workers.
- Department of Agriculture
In its dual role of regulator and marketer, the Michigan Department of Agriculture (MDA) provides Michigan citizens with quality services and information by working cooperatively with many state, federal and local agencies and other organizations including universities, colleges and associations. MDA's mission is to protect, promote and preserve the food, agricultural, environmental and economic interests of the people of Michigan.
- Department of Civil Rights
The Department of Civil Rights investigates and resolves discrimination complaints and works to prevent discrimination through educational programs that promote voluntary compliance with civil rights laws.
- Department of Community Health
The Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) is responsible for health policy and management of the state's publicly-funded health service systems. The department was created in 1996 by consolidating the Department of Public Health, the Department of Mental Health and the Medical Services Administration, the state's Medicaid agency. The Office of Drug Control Policy and the Office of Services to the Aging were later consolidated with MDCH.
- Department of Corrections
The Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) is one of the principal state departments. MDOC's goal is is to provide the greatest amount of public protection while making the most efficient use of the State's resources. All adults and juveniles sentenced as adults convicted of offenses for which the statutory maximum is more than one year can be sentenced to the state's prison system which is under the jurisdiction of MDOC.
- Department of Education
Michigan Department of Education (MDE) oversees public school districts in the state. The Department of Education is overseen by the State Board of Education.
- Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth
The mission of the Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth (DELEG) is composed of several labor and economic development agencies and commissions to promote job creation and economic growth in Michigan by centralizing and streamlining the state's job development, workforce development, and economic development functions under one department.
- Department of Environmental Quality
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) protects and enhances Michigan's environment and public health. As stewards of Michigan's environmental heritage, DEQ works on behalf of the people of the Great Lakes state for an improved quality of life and a sustainable future. DEQ administers programs and enforces laws that protect public health and promotes the appropriate use of, limits the adverse effects on, and restores the quality of the environment.
- Department of Human Services
The Department of Human Services (DHS) is Michigan's public assistance, child and family welfare agency. DHS directs the operations of public assistance and service programs through a network of over 100 county department of human service offices around the state.
- Department of Military and Veterans Affairs
The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs oversees the military components and veterans services for the State. These military components are: the Michigan National Guard (Michigan Army National Guard and Michigan Air National Guard), Homeland Security Directorate, and United States Property and Fiscal Office.
- Department of Natural Resources and Environment
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) is the agency of the state of Michigan charged with maintaining natural resources such as state parks, state forests, and recreation areas. It is governed by a director appointed by the Governor and accepted by the Natural Resources Commission.
- Department of State Police
In addition to its role of providing general law enforcement services, the department accepts the unique responsibility for the development and coordination of state-level programs, technologies, and specialized services that enhance enforcement and emergency response capabilities for the entire public safety community.
- Department of Technology, Management & Budget
The Department of Technology, Management & Budget (DTMB) partners with the various state agencies to provide IT goods and services. DTMB has a client relationship model that is designed to help DTMB help support agencies' business needs. In this model, DTMB employees take ownership of their clients' business needs and share solutions across agencies to achieve the most effective solution at the lowest cost to the state.
- Department of Transportation
The primary purpose of MDOT is to maintain the Michigan State Trunkline Highway System which includes all Interstate, US and state highways in Michigan with the exception of the Mackinac Bridge. Other responsibilities that fall under MDOT's mandate include airports, shipping and rail in Michigan.
- Library of Michigan
The Library of Michigan promotes, advocates and consistently works to achieve the highest level of library service to the State of Michigan, its government, its libraries and its residents.
- Michigan Economic Development Corporation
The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) touches, assists and helps grow thousands of Michigan businesses each year. As a public corporation created through an interlocal agreement between state and local governments, the MEDC is a liaison with local communities and agencies across the state.
- Michigan Works!
The Michigan Works! System is a customer-driven workforce development system that serves employers and job seekers to ensure that employers have the skilled workers they need and workers have good jobs that provide economic self-sufficiency. The Michigan Works! System is open to everyone for information gathering, local and state labor market information, and self-serve career information, including necessary skill levels for good jobs. Special attention is given to meeting the needs of Veterans and people with disabilities.
- Office of Children's Ombudsman
The Office of Children's Ombudsman (OCO) is an independent state agency with primary responsibility to receive and investigate complaints concerning children who for reasons of abuse or neglect are under the supervision of the Department of Human Services (DHS) or its private contracted agencies. In addition to addressing citizen complaints, the OCO makes recommendations to the Governor, the Legislature, and the Department of Human Services (DHS) for changes in child welfare laws, rules, and policies to improve outcomes for children.

OSA's reporting forms and information website provides online access to resources intended to help the aging network meet a variety of programmatic and financial reporting requirements.
- Office of the State Employer
The Office of the State Employer shall retain primary responsibility for compliance with state and federal disability rights laws on matters relating to state employment. Duties include providing Departmental ADA Coordinators with guidance, training, education, and technical assistance on workplace accommodations for employees with disabilities. These activities will be conducted in cooperation and coordination with the State ADA Coordinator.
- Public Sex Offender Registry
The Michigan State Police (MSP) Public Sex Offender Registry (PSOR) is made available through the Internet with the intent to better assist the public in preventing and protecting against the commission of future criminal sexual acts by convicted sex offenders.
- Workers' Compensation Agency
The Workers' Compensation Agency administers the Workers' Disability Compensation Act, which provides wage replacement, medical, and vocational rehabilitation benefits to men and women who suffer work-related injuries and disabilities.

The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs serves to encourage, develop and facilitate an enriched environment of artistic, creative, cultural activity in Michigan.
- Michigan Public Service Commission
The mission of the Michigan Public Service Commission is to grow Michigan's economy and enhance the quality of life of its communities by assuring safe and reliable energy, telecommunications, and transportation services at reasonable prices.
- Michigan State Housing Development Authority
The Michigan State Housing Development Authority, provides financial and technical assistance through public and private partnerships to create and preserve safe and decent affordable housing.
